Red Sable

by Red Sable on 05 September 2012 - 22:09

Hi  crackedpottery :)

I always have gotten my dogs as puppies, and loved it that way.
As for the GSD, there is such a mixed bag of temperaments out there you really have to shop around.
I've found from my experiences the toughest and most challenging dogs I've had, were the ones I learned the most from.  None of us would become experienced or learn anything if all our dogs were easy.
I'm sure you'll be fine, as you are on here and willing to learn.  We all start somewhere.

Welcome!

Crackedpottery,,

Bad choice of words on my part..I think advertise was the wrong word..

Anyway, I did not mean to suggest anything negetive at all..I'd taken from the posts that you might have had some issues in the the past and had concerns for your safety..

I was just giving some friendly advice nothing more...:)

Zdog,,By all means I would not want to be the cause for all the pretty ladies changing their avatars..lol..

Ahhh... well to be on this board.. .you will learn what it is  like to be a GSD with good nerve!  Calm, collected, focused, and move through the chaos like nothing is wrong, nor will anything bother you!  Welcome!

Ruger1 there was no offence taken whatsoever, and I appreciate the heads up.  Just interested in some advice and probably the PM  that I got right before your post stating that I "shouldn't expect a dog to take care of me if I can't take care of myself."  Probably put me over the edge and I responded a little more negatively than I meant to.

Not your fault at all.

Pottery barn, keep in mind that it I'd easier to socialize a puppy to certain things. Horses come to mind.

Hey, crackedpottery, what happened to that picture of a hay bale you promised?  With nice, clean square bales commanding as high as $10 each around here, and beef-cow quality grass rounds pulling $50 for twine-wrapped and $60 for net-wrapped, an avie of a bale of hay is pretty racy stuff for anyone who's got livestock or horses to feed this year!  Thumbs Up

If she posts gorgeous photos of hay bales, we'll know she's just bragging.

I know what having hay shortage is like caused by drought..we had three years of it here which ended a couple years ago. Hay was so scarce and of such poor quality, that I switched to Beet pulp as a substitute. The price at the time was six dollars for fifty pound bag.. I told a lot of people about it for their stock, and by the third year, the price was up to fifteen and eighteen dollars. The supply could not keep up with the demand and it became hard to come by. But I wil say that the beef I process from my beet pulp fed cattle, was the best tasting and tender, as was the goat meat. The horses, goats, cattle, plus chickens thrived on it. Wish it was still affordable. Hay around here is three to 3.50 dollars a bale ( delivered and stacked in the hay barn) for mixed grass with lesperdiza (sp), fifty to seventy pound bales.

I am much too modest to post a photo of our irresistible small, square bales but I will share a photo of Martin preparing to feed the cows a round bale.

I suppose this is bragging to the raw feeders and steak lovers out there too. Sigh.
I'm sooo lucky. :)
