Christine _ Simon is in Pakistan; and someone told him
his puppy might get Rickets, so I expect he is reading
old threads on the topic for background info.

Sunsilver - not surprised dog got ill if it was ONLY
fed mince.  Not what I was suggesting.  My mentor
was guided to ADD raw good quality minced beef
to the puppy/junior Euk (eventually also plus a little
tripe)  she was already feeding, by a Great Dane
breeder who had a good deal of experience with
rickets etc - post Vets' diagnosis.   It didn't do the
young man in question any harm at all, and probably
prevented his symptoms getting worse than they
had at that point.  His legs never completely corrected,
but he was fine otherwise, apart from looking odd.
And yes, we increased his access to sunlight as part
of his treatment ;  but he wasn't kept in the dark in the
first place.  (Better than keep injecting Calcium, yes ?)
Went as a pet & burglar / vandal deterrent to a bloke
running a pub.

i would be leery of calcium shots- that could screw things up BIGTIME :(

your dog needs a shot of Vitamin A D & E, i have done it before with all kinds of animals with rickets. a calcium injection will not work. you can get A, D, E for an affordable price at jefferspet.com. give him a cow bone to boost bone marrow and some raw chicken. you can get the bone at jefferspet.com also. raw chicken might not sound good. but it and the bone and the shot of a, d & e will get rid of the rickets, Thanks, Good Luck

Have just re read my first reply posted on this thred,
and [sorry Sunsilver]  I realise what I said then was
ambiguous,  its not clear I was talking about it as an
addition to the existing diet.

Apologies for any confusion;  what can I say ?  I was
newish to posting then, I am learning to try to be more
specific and spell things out when I contribute !!!

Wonder what happened to Bhargaz the original poster
and his puppy,  he never responded to us.
