Often, shelters and rescues say "mix" because they don't know for certain that a dog is purebred and don't want people coming back to them when/if a dog starts showing traits of some other breed.

---> T@@ funny, Marjorie! LOL!

Looking back on it, its funny now- wasnt funny at the time because the person we pulled her for only wanted a female. It never occurred to my buddy who was getting her out of the shelter for to check, as its  something one would never suspect someone of making an error about. He got her out of the shelter and picked her up to give her a kiss, and lo and behold, he saw the athletic equipment!!! We called the person who wanted the female and she said NO- no males! There was only one sheperd pup there, so evidently the person that listed her as a female has a lot to learn about anatomy ;) If the pup was returned, it would have been grounds for immediate euthanization, so he sat in the car with the little guy till I  found him another home.  For 3 hours I was sweating bullets and panicking. Elementary biology, and the shelter people hadnt a clue.....
