I would have said Good.

They truly must be getting stingy with "Good". I was thinking Good as well.
Passing is passing, tho, so. Congrats Keith and Axel!

I figured it was right on the border and would have gone good with either a little better positioning or if the reviewers had been in a good mood. As Theresa said, passing is passing and no evidence of hip dysplasia means just that.

Is it worth anything to have the X-rays done before 1 year?

by Keith Grossman on 02 July 2012 - 16:07
I've never done it and probably wouldn't unless I suspected a problem.

fawndallasm,
a dog can only be "prelimed" at 1yr throught the OFA. They have to be 2 yrs for offical certification. The SV will certifiy at 1yr. If the dog is a breeding prospect, most breeders want to take a look around that time.

SitaMom I am glad yours came back OK, I now have a beautiful Sable girl who will be spayed and go into a pet home with friends as she is mildly dysplastic in one leg.

First I'd say that this dog will be fine for rest of his life.
The "L" hip (on the right) is adducted - turned outward . You can see it by looking at the knee cap which needs to be in the middle of the knee. Here it is pointing outwards quite a bit, thus the "L" hip looks worse then the "R" ( on the left side of the picture) hip even so they are probably of the same quality. This diminishes the level of grading of the hips.
The main reason though, why the dog got "Fair" in my estimate may be caused by the spurring of the pelvis right above the hip socket and above of the femoral head. That shape should be convex but it is getting concave. Look at the proper convex shape of the other picture someone posted here. That is how it should look. This "spurring" is a first sign of future deterioration.
