I don't own Jedi or the farm there--he belongs to a long-time friend of mine who herds and trials with her border collies. He's a full younger brother to Coal, the dog in my avatar, though.
She picked up a trio of mini donkeys last year, turned out the jenny was pregnant, now she has 4--she uses them as herd guardians and they stay out with her sheep. They will naturally run off strange dogs--and they serve as property guards--they'll bray whenever something strange happens, and the oldest male donkey will come and check out any strange cars that come on the property after dark. The younger donkeys will stay with the sheep and guard them; the older ones are less likely to stick close to the sheep (because they didn't grow up with the sheep).
I herd with Jedi's littermate, Jubilee--but we haven't accomplished nearly as much as Jedi and Terri have (I don't have my own sheep.... yet!).

Christine, I saw one of your dogs at Statesville, Blackthorne's Mecca. Really nice dog. Congratulations!

Hmmm. I don't think that's one of my dogs, Blitzen, although I'd love to take credit for a nice dog. :)
There is a breeder in West Virginia who also uses the kennel name Blackthorn. I didn't discover her until after I'd been breeding quite a few years--I actually think she's been breeding longer than I have, but again, we didn't know about each other back before the internet.... She breeds American and German showlines, with more German dogs now--at least from what I can tell.
My kennel name is registered with USCA, but not AKC--an AKC kennel name can't be a real word. So, I just try not to worry about it too much and make sure to clarify when confusion arises.

Blackthorn's Mecca (Ivan von der Bush Blackthorn x Blackthorn's Flying Change) breeder Margaret Arabia, owner Sara Wessinger Lancaster, SC.
What are the odds of 2 breeders using the same unique kennel name LOL?

My Ike vom Dolderbrunnen HGH SchH3 is from a herding kennel in Germany. His brother still works on the farm which has upwards to 800 sheep at times.
Sadly I did not have him frozen, and found out recently that he's now too old to produce.
