I know you have to Chip if you want your dog passporting but We Tattoo cause then it cant be retracted out of the skin when/if someone steals your dog/puppy, Where i think that if your dog is ear tattooed people will be less inclined to steal your dog/puppy.

My mum is registered with PetLog and can Microchip her own dogs and puppies.

But we prefer to have a woman come out and have them tattooed.

All of my dogs are chipped and one is both.  I would have them alll both if there was a decent tattoo person around here.

Someone made a good point the other day in a conversation I was having about this, speaking of dogs in a shelter situation. You cannot always guarantee that in a shelter situation where the dog may be frightened and scared and possibly acting agressive that someone is going to volunteer possibly being bitten in order to get their hands wrapped around the dogs head so to speak to try and read an ear tattoo which may involve having to shave some hair in order to get a clear reading if the tattoo is even good enough. It is much easier for them to put the dog on a pole and get a scanner waved over it to read a microchip, yes I know they have been known to move, but I've seen them scan at the shelter and they'll wave it up and down the whole dog legs and all in order to try and find a chip. They may not even see a tattoo on a really frightened dog that may be curled up in the back of the kennel with its ears down the whole time. Just try to picture the situation and see what you think about it for yourself. Me, I agreed and had never really thought about it like that before, just gave me more reason to continue to chip my puppies.
