Jim, i have a complaint to make, when you come out from under your rock could you not make as much noise. You disturbed me from mine and i had to see what all the commotion was about, only to find it was all about PENCIL, lol, lol. I have said this before, and yes i am guilty too, but why do we reply to his rantings? If we ignore maybe he will just go away. By the way Pencil, you have got Jim all wrong, you really don't know him at all, or you would not make such stupid comments about him. Nobody here owes Pencil any explanations, so lets all try harder to ignore "it". Liz

When I first came into this breed forty years ago all of the things that Pencil is complaining about existed then. At that time judges were giving places to friends etc and, in some cases, holding up animals from their just rewards. Nothing has changed, the show scene is a rigged game. It seems to me now that some things are more blatant and, Pencil is right, nobody cares. With such small entries these things become more obvious.

When I first started showing my first dog I finished third in a numerically strong Junior Class and I was satisfied with the place. However, when the judging was finished I learned my first lesson which thereafter affected my exhibiting career. The judge came to me and said “ I liked your dog best in his class but you have to do your apprenticeship first“. The judge was a respected person in the breed and, at that time, was a committee member of the League. The comment angered me at the time but with hindsight it did me a huge favour in getting things into perspective. My exhibiting became less frequent but when I did show I always made an acceptable place. I also saved a considerable amount of money (showing is expensive) and, I had peace of mind.

Mackenzie:

How refreshing to get som honest intelligent replies well done.
All those responses above seem to me to be a mini UnderClass Cartel huddled together agreeing to deny all the bad practices so as not to upset any later judging of their dogs. Those of them that are already judges know but daren't speak up. All they seem to say is the same old tired words, never once addressing the issues-and of course you have jaymesie51 and his mate liz? turning out what they consider jokes-the old chesnut- lead in yer pencil- god even my dogs have stopped laughing.
Just had a thought no word from the top 4 kennels, there again thats why they are the top 4 I guess.

Who are the top 4 kennels please?

It would seem that hearsay is enough proof for the likes of pencil (Mackenzie) and have also noticed that no apology from pencil for his blatent and very wrong dig about the birmingham show  but that is what i expect from his ilk never mind pencil i am sure when they find a cure for you   you will get something right

To Jim H

I am not sure from your post whether, or not, you think Pencil and I are the same person.  Can you please clarify your remark.

In the absence of a response from JimH, that I challenged in my last post, I should make it quite clear that Pencil and I are NOT the same person which is something Jim H appears to suggest.  Like many other readers on this forum I have absolutely no idea of Pencil's true identity.

My comments on this thread are about judging and, they are an observation over the last forty years of being involved in this breed.  My comments do not relate to anything that may, or, may not have happened at Birmingham show.

From a personal point of view it matters not whether a contributor identifies themself or not.  I am quite able to argue my case in a sensible and reasonable manner when I make a contribution to the forum under my own name as I always have done in the past and, will continue to do in the future.

Steve, the top 4 kennels have always been a bit of a mystery... many have asked the same question, but pencil has yet to answer!

Yes... we all know that iffy judging goes on, this is NOT news!  Don't enter under the judges you think are less than fair... simple!  Judges WILL like the type they have or have produced themselves... this can't be rocket science, even to pencil.

Once again, pencil got it wrong... has anyone noticed an apology to Nikki?  No, of course not, pencil was born on a dark night... there's never a nice post to anyone or about anything... too bloody dreary and predictable!

Have you thought about philately as an alternative hobby, pencil?

Mackenzie has hit the nail on the head, too many judges put up what they like irrespective of the breed standard and justify it with some vague nonesense. Lets say a very good dog turns up at one of the biggest shows of the year, nobody has ever seen or heard of the dog or it's owner/handler before but it's clear it's a litle better than the other dogs that have been doing all the recent winning, how many judges would  give the unknown dog the ticket ?,

by pencil on 19 October 2009 - 16:10

Ah we have the full set now miss beeb turned up.

Actually its quite easy to work out the 4 top kennels-go on have a go.Try past 5 years results see who won most things.
