I just want to correct something I said earlier in that the JRD test (Juvenile Renal Dysplasia) is specific to GSDs, it isn't - it is found and the DNA test covers other breeds as well (I do tend to limit my thinking to GSD's sometimes). So, GSD's can inherit JRD, and there is a specific accurate DNA test for it, but it covers other breeds as well. My confusion arises from the fact that there is a similar problem in boxer dogs which is NOT caused by the same genetic defect, which is currently being researched.
Just so your info is totally accurate!
