I would not be putting anything into the crate! If the puppy eats the stinky sock you might have some other issues coming like a surgery.
Put her in a garage, if it works that might be your solution. Also, take the two crates and put them next to each other so the dog can see each other, front of the crates facing each other.
Let me know her reaction

Laura - I seriously need to be your neighbor...lol
Tripple3 - Yes, when the barking gets constant I pick up her crate (with her in it) and move her to the garage. I don't put anything into her crate as she is a non stop chewer. Right now I can't even pet her as she like to bite hands and arms. Yeah it is that bad...I mean no petting at all or I'm getting full mouth bites and re-grips.
GSDPack - I tried last night with her in the house. She started up again and I put a blanket over and it worked for awhile and she started up and then went ballistic when I let my 17 month old out. I then put him back in and let the crates face each other and she wouldn't stop....bitch. (lol) I went to bed around 10 and 12am she woke me up with more barking...bitch. I said f it and moved her to the garage where she stayed quiet for the rest of the night. Looks like that will be crate spot. I'm thinking it is just a phase and she will grow out of it.

Oh boy, I do remember the first time my puppy was crated. She never stopped throwing tantrums and attacking the metal door. She was my first GSD and was just 8 weeks old but I thought I had a monster!
I also knew the classic mistake was to let her out so I grab my blanket threw it over the crate making sure there is still ventilation (coz it was too distressing for me to watch her) and drank a whole bottle of wine. Felt asleep and the following days were easier. She accepted it! Oh I also had a nice classical music piece like a requiem at a volume lol.

Good luck Ace with your monster :)
Here's a couple of pictures I took on the first day, getting more distressed watching her barking, howling and biting the cage lol.

She is good as gold now. So don't give up!

Yap, she is a bitch..LOL, it was worth the try I suppose....
Put her in a garage, I know it sucks but what can you do. I have an adult dog that gets too excited if she sees any other dog while in her crate.... she is in a garage, works wonders. She comes in a house but sleeps in the garage! She even stopped demolishing my crates! As she demolished 4 of them!!!! not a cheap dog tell ya.
Poseidon.. hmmmm.... what a pissy little fur ball!
