Getting back on track. If a vet gets 5 clients a day for vaccines and he says that they aren't needed, how much $ does he lose? I'll be generous and say $30/shot x 5 x 300 days(assuming the clinic is open Saturdays)= $45,000/yr. That's being very generous. In 10 years, he loses $450,000.

Great perspective Don! And to think most vets are getting way more than five clients for vaccines per day!

Kelly, I was being generous. At the end of the day, you have to remember it is a business.

Don,
On the science diet he does push it.  But, I know why he pushes it and he told me.  I don't buy it or use it.  I go Evo and we agree its good stuff.  I have used this vet for a long time because he is a large animal no BS kinda fella.
About Vaccinations.  They prevent illness.  The more routine you are with them, the more they are affective.  It is just that simple and besides, I don't pay my vet for vaccinations.  Most know or should know that you can buy VET quality vaccinations from most feedstores or online feedstores.  I only give a rabies at the vet and I would NEVER not give a rabies and we have a rabies issue in Texas.  But, I vaccinate them as late as I can go on it.
I give vaccinations because I have seen many canine deaths of Parvo and Distemper.  Not one, but many.  If I can give a simple shot that will DRAMATICALLY cut my chances of my dog getting those illinesses, BOOM, its done. As far as vaccinations not working, well I can't push my opinion on you and I am sorry that you feel that way.  If your opinion is formed about money or Vets trying to get your money:
Valley vet supply has cheap vaccinations.  Or google k-9 7way to find really inexpensive ones.  You don't have to get this stuff from a vet at all.

Wpool, I have a vet buddy too. I rarely ever go to his office, but his home. I vaccinate my puppies, then not so much. Rabies is a wait until older. I'm going off of what my vet buddy says, what I've read from published medical findings of places like MSU, etc. Everything I hear and read seems similar to what Jenni78 stated. Breeders do not need to vaccinate pups unless they are their past 8 weeks.

I am sure that if breeders don't take 4 and 5 week old puppies on public everyday, they don't.  I just find that I have a limited time to maximize my puppies exposure to new things and I have them with me and everyplace at an early age and until they go to their new homes.  If my puppies didn't travel so much, I would not vaccinate so early.  If my puppies simply stayed in their kennels until they were sold, I would not vacciante so early.  They are at a greater risk of encountering these illnesses so they are vaccinated.  I won't change that unless I change my puppies socialization schedule.

Well I guess you didn't read what others have written. Please use google and read what leading universities and doctors in vet science have found.

If you really feel like you HAVE to vaccinate pups and you truly are tying to do the best thing then you would wait until the pups are 9 to 10 weeks. Then give one vaccine and then do a titer test in 10 days. Repeat test at one year if it makes you feel better. Vets are playing the odds. The thinking is that you need to give several shots over a wide timespan to cover all possibilities. They do this I believe because people are not going to go to the expense or trouble of vaccinating scientifically and or they do not believe there is any issue with vaccines or giving multiple vaccines several times in a row. I still don't understand why they give "booster" shots for some things to adult dogs.

Don.  The leading scientist use to find that the earth was flat.  I go with who I trust and know.  I have seen illness take puppies lives in my area and that is what it is.  At this point I know and trust someone who suggests that for MY AREA and training schedule, I SHOULD VACCINATE.  I will do that.  But, please don't feel as though I am trying to pressure you to conform to my opinions at all.  I completely recognize your RIGHT to do your own thing.

Kind Regards,
