VKGSD your dog is gorgeous and not what I am talking about. See how his underside and legs still have the lighter coloring? The dogs I am talking about were the same orange all over no lighter highlights at all.  I would not accuse your dog of being dyed and I am not talking about dogs just rich in color. I will not oust the photos I am talking about publishing them here but perhaps they will be noticed by others in future.

You mean like the "butt fluff" hair?  In that case, I have seen dogs I did think were a bit suspicious...  I don't get why anyone would dye that or photoshop it.  I love to see the full range of color on the dog, from the black saddle to the red to the cream color underneath the dog.

I agree completely and yes you are the first to grasp what I am saying lol all the fur everything underneath and all same exact shade.

If you want to pm me a link, I'd love to see a pic. Very rarely do you see a pic where the feathering and underbelly match the red on the upper parts of the body.

GSDNewbie, I have shown dogs for a lot of years and have seen a lot of dogs dyed, most GSD. I have never seen one done like you describe. It would take a very novice person to completely color out the shading. And the people who own top dogs are not novice.

I've seen it done with hair color, tea bags, henna and USA Today papers in the crate.

I think what you are describing is photo shopped.

hth,
Rik

I was at a show once with someone who is a hair stylist, and she pointed out a dog that she believed looked dyed.  It was similar to what is described in this thread, the hair on the underbelly and butt/pants had absorbed some of the dye and was more orange/red than the normal white or cream.

Sure pedigree database, when someone tells the trueth with names and dates, you delete the post.... and don't be afraid, I already sended this story, WITH PICTURES FROM THIS COLORING to the SV and they also didn't do anything.... so you see in what a world we live....

Moderator comment. Could I refer you to T.O.S. 8 & 12. Feel free to post a link to any factual documented evidence you have, thank you.  mrdarcy (mod)

Why on earth would I want already unscrupulous dog people angry with me for posting it when someone from here runs and tells them it's been posted? No thanks, I have given enough description and others understood my meaning. Look at gsd websites youll run across them if you know what to look for just like I did.

GSDNewbie:

I am going to email you some photos of my dog at various ages (8 weeks to the present) to illustrate that for a dog to retain pigment, he has to start out very dark (preferably with a blanket pattern). As for intensity of red, I have observed over the years that tan/red areas tend to darken with age. When you see a well-pigmented SL dog, it doesn't always mean Photoshop or dying.

At 8 weeks, he started out as a fairly conventionally colored (not dyed) B/T with lots of black.

Anyhow, you will see my dog at the USA Sieger Show and decide for yourself. When he was recently at the groomering shop for a bath, thr new groomer remarked about his red coloring and inquired what color he had been at birth.
