Hodie  you sure know how to stir a pot.
Short of mentioned medical reasons in the last part of the article this is THE single most idiotic article concerning and evaluating dog trainer and his methods which I have EVER  read. ....Bar none. Ever!
And I leave it at that.

Frankly, I didn't much care for it either, but since I am training with a trainer who uses positive methods, and getting good results with them, I didn't want to trash the whole article.

I'm willing to learn new things, but trashing the whole idea of pack structure, and needing to get the dog's respect does not sit well with me.

You turn two dogs that don't know each other out to play, and what's the first thing they do? They figure out who's who in the pecking order. If they can't agree on that, you likely will have a fight on your hands.

I have no problems with treat training and positive training, but I've yet to have anyone explain these 'new' ideas about canine behaviour and learning in a way that makes sense to me, based on my experience with dogs.

I have to disagree with the statement he started with big dogs and he knew how to handle large dog breeds and how to train them   NOT

He went to Steve Leighs, Training Academy for two years , in Tampa FLorida,  paid two years in a row to have Steve teach him how to train and handle large , aggressive breed of dog...SO

Somehow I do not think this man is all above board in his  TALES>>or  TAILS>>

I think CM has some very valid and usable points. I don't endorse everything he does, since he caters to (for the most part), unknowing handlers. Commercial dog training now-a-days needs to cater to the owner/handler moreso than the dog. Indeed....dogs weren't born bad....it's just many are put into misinformed/uneducated or just downright...bad hands!

There's nothing wrong with positive training methods, but I've come to the conclusion, that dogs are physical creatures, and sometimes corrections are a requirement. At some point a dog will push boundaries, and that's the threshold, where positive training stops. Of course, it all depends on the type of dog, and it's personality. Some are hard, and can tolerate alot, and some are soft, and can shut-down at the drop of a hat. It's knowing your dog's limits.

I just remember the 3 dogs that he turned down for his show and recommended to the various owners to have the dogs euthanized.  My animal behavorist friend (30+ years of working with working breeds and K9s, who specializes in dog aggression) was successful in working with the dogs and owners.  She has the letters from Milan.  I do know that he has hired animal behavorists for his show to help him learn so that is to his credit.  I agree with others, I still don't like him.

LOL YR, did Leigh tell you that?  I have to doubt that story.

I do know that Milan worked for and learned from a far more reputable and well-known trainer in his early years - highly doubt he went from there to Steve Leigh.

Yes, MOlly... Steve has photos in his albums of him   ..So does one of his best friends, who was there at the same time.

Why do you want to run other people down... Steve Leigh and Gene England trained a lot of men in thie country.
NOt gonna get into an argument about that...I saw the photos...Gene and  Steve do not go around bragging about their seminars or who they taught...BUt I know Milan was there..

Pictures do not lie.  nor do I .. I do not post things I do not or have not seen.

Thanks for the vote of confidence..Do not start with me.. I really am not in the mood for calling me a liar.

I could name you a whole lot of people in Schutzhund and in california where he started in schutzhund and dog training many years ago..that he trained and held seminars with and for.....HE has a room of videos and photos of all his years in the training and learning...  Years of Germany trips and years of working in California with Law ENFORCEMENT  with dogs...Might surprise people what dogs he titled also.   They are not on his website either..

No sense running the man down or trying to belittle him...
