jenni - thanks for clarifying "meal". I never really looked into what exactly it was.

hachiko - is rice really that good?

I am now thinking about evo, I am on the fence with the Red Meat product, or the Herring product, but I am leaning more to the fish.

I feed my dogs TOTW with Wellness Core can and Merrick can and twice a week I put raw ground venison or ground hamburger in their food in place of the can.  They do very well on this, have good stools, their coats shine and their weights are good.  I'd like to see few extra pounds on my male but he's so high drive it's hard.  The TOTW I feed them is the high praire bison/venison.

Pharaoh

I feed Pharaoh 1 1/2 cups of Origen Regional Red soaked in 1/2 cup of warm water.  Then I top dress it with a one pound defrosted chubb of Excalibur from GreenTripe.com with 1 squirt of Sardine/Anchovy Oil.

He gets this meal about twice a week in the AM and he really loves it.  In the PM, he gets a chicken breast quarter.

The rest of the time he gets a leg chicken quarter with liver/heart/gizzards in the AM with a squirt of Sardine/Anchovy Oil and the PM a breast quarter plain with a piece of the spine to balance out all that breast meat.

Good topic. Dog food is always a very subjective thing. What works for one dog may not work for another. I've known people to feed their dogs a steady diet of Ol'Roy, only to see their dogs die of OLD age (and nothing more), and I've seen some people dissect the science of dog food, only to have their young dog die of cancer.

NEVER, ever listen to a vet's opinion of how to feed your dog, and never follow the recommended dosage listed on dog food bags. A) Vets are salespeople.....they endorse whatever's lining their pockets. I've seen many a good dog go down pre-maturely on Science Diet. B) Dog Food companies give a ball park recommended feeding dosage.

I have 2 golden retrievers. One is a retired door-greeter, and the other is a SAR working dog. They get no more than 3/4 c  Acana kibble in A.M. & 3/4 c Acana kibble in P.M.. I do supplement their diet with chopped up veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pea pods), fruit (apples), tblspn of cottage cheese, tblspn of brown rice, and I will sometimes pickup liver or lamb from the meat dept. at my local grocer. I also give them glucosamine, and a couple of drops of colloidal silver in their water. They are lean....not skinny....and not overweight. GR's have a tendency to get fat and I refuse to let that happen. Through proper diet + exercise + work, they keep their weight relatively stable.

Sorry...I didn't read through this whole thread, so not sure if the OP posted pics of his dog. Personally, some dogs have high metabolisms, and some dogs have low metabolisms. I see some well-fed dogs that always have ribs showing. One of my tricks, is to change things up....change your kibble, so that the dog is not constantly exposed to the same food.
