can opener, not electric
powdered and canned milk
salt (large quantities can be used to preserve food)
sugar
dried beans
rice
extra fuel for generator if you have one
flashlight batteries
emergency broadcast radio with extra batteries just for it
coffee, tea (extra for barter)
multi-vitamins
canned chicken, and other canned meats
small camp cookstove with fuel
Many sources of dehyrated foods now that are easy store.  Shoot, even Costco has dehydrated emergency packs available now.

Seeds for a garden was mentioned.  Get the right seeds that will grow storable foods and will produce next generation seeds.

For barter I stocked, OTC medical supplies, rice, beans, seeds, tea bags, scott tissue rolls and coast soap bars. I recently started stocking pens and paper, solar radios, and herbs. After, I get this last round stocked, I think I'll start stocking up on tents. What else is a good idea ?

The U.S. Army National Guard has an application for your Android to download. It's packed with all sorts of survival skills, edible plants, weapon making, fort building, communications etc. With a solar radio you can keep your Android charged to view the application even without service. Thought I'd mention it.

Mystere, it can be frightening, but it is more intended to create awareness and be prepared. There is an excellent book out (the author started the survival blog I mentioned). The name of the book is " How to Survive the End of the World as We Know it". The author covers several different scenarios including, economic collapse, terrorist attack, hut down of all computers, pandemics...etc. It seems overwhelming at times. My husband and I have taken measure to cover different possible events. It is reassuring and somewhat surprising to realize there are many, many folks thinking the same way. When we first started planning, some people looked at us like we were over reacting, so we kept quiet. Now, on here, it seems others are planning, too. My question is what to do about extended family members who would not be productive? I am not talking about elderly folks who have contributed to the family and society, but younger, middle age folks who have been a drain on society. Hopefully, this makes sense. Let me say this: there are people on here I have never met in person who I would readily invite to our shelter before I would invite a couple of my own relatives. That causes some questions and confusion for me.
