So sorry for your  loss. I had to put my best friend down yesterday so I know how you feel.
Stay strong.

So sorry for your loss. They come into our lives and bring such joy, yet can only spend a relatively short time with us. I lost my old girl, who was my rock and my boy (my "heart" dog) a month to the day from each other coming on two years ago. I still talk to both of them. I love the other 4 but those two were the special ones. It looks like your guy was one of those...

I Stood By Your Bed

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep.
I could see that your were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly
As you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you,
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
Your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today,
Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.

I was with you at the grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you,
That I am not laying there.

I walked with you towards the house,
As you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired,
And sank into your chair,
I tried so hard to let you know,
That I was standing there.

It's possible for me,
To be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty,
"I never went away."

You sat there very quietly,
Then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you.

The day is over...
I smile and watch you yawning,
And say, "Good-night, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you,
To cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you,
And we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you,
There is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out..
Then come home to be with me.

It is amazing to me at how we all can be so different, live all over the world, different backgrounds, situations and we can even disagree with each other, etc.......but we all know how each other has felt one time or another when we lose these gentle giants. How we all come to a common place and understand and empathize with each other.........

Frank, I am very sorry you lost your best friend yesterday, my heart just breaks for you. Frank I want to tell you also, to stay tough , but brother I found it easier to cry like a 2 year old.  It is so okay to hurt like children.  See, it is our own innocence like that of a child that allows for us to receive the very love they give us, it also allows for us to hurt when they leave us.   And Flygirl55, how beautiful are the words you wrote.

No matter how different we are, all of us know what it is like to love our wonderful dogs, no matter what breed or combination of breeds.  All of us also know that familiar pain of letting go of our family members.........and they are family members.

Thank you again for all the kind posts.  These wonderful posts belong to all of us.

Thanks Marinemom, and yes I cried like a little boy.  One of the toughest things I have ever had to do. However, life goes on and I was blessed to have had him as my buddy.
