Here is a link to more American bred showline GSDs we had in the past, during our former kennel days....

Our Past

Rik

hello SS, she had very good health and lived to a good age (12 years). Also never embarrassed me by her character or that she produced.

Might not mean much here, but is saying a lot in the world I lived in at the time.

Anyway, just hope to offer some insight into the world of the A.S.S and what I feel went wrong. And I do feel it went terribly wrong as a breed.

but that is JMO,
Rik

Rik, I am sure there are not many here who would disagree with you.

Rik, only those who were seriously into showing could appreciate what she represented for that day in time.....

SS, I am not saying that you don't or you can't, but myself, having been there, I can totally understand what Rik is saying......

nonacon,I've heard the stories of those who were there about the spooky temperments, genetic faults (tails rolled up like a jelly roll!), legs that were so lacking in bone that they'd break without warning; and although I've never been bitten by the conformation bug, I certainly appreciate the dedication it takes to do that type of showing, and breed for the show ring.

And maybe these dogs look like freaks to those who love the German lines, but I'm sure you loved them anyway, and took great pride in their achievements.

SS, Thanks for understanding.....Back in a day, I was so proud of what I had accomplished.  There was a price to pay for it though....I did not have many litters....I had gotten so discouraged early on, that I gave up quick, although I continued to show my dogs......I had many great mentors. Some of the best, Ken-Delaine Thompson, Besty Carpentier, and Joan and Fran Ford......Like I said, everything happens for a reason....My misfortunes were in a round-about- way, one of the best things that happened to me......

Rik and Nona,

This is a great thread.  Just for a walk down memory lane.  My first GSD was a Stuttgart's Sundance Kid., bitch, that served as a seeing eye dog.  Great dog.

Rik, I love when you break out all these old photos.
