Ibrahim,

That makes me wonder...Is Thanksgiving celebrated in any other countries than the US?  I know it is an American holiday, but was wondering...

Yes Christians here do celebrate it too, I may be mistaken but I was under the impression it is a Christian occasion not American people's occasion only, no offense ofcourse meant. Here called Turkey day.

I don't believe that it is specifically a Christian holiday, Ibrahim.  It is celebrated here by most everyone, I think, regardless of their religious ties, or lack thereof.

No offense taken...I was just curious, having never been to the Middle East and not ever being likely to visit.  I know that Americans, even in other countries, do celebrate it.  I just wondered if the practice of the celebration of Thanksgiving, or Turkey Day, had spread to the local peoples in those countries.  People everywhere have things in their lives to be thankful for, I know I have lots of things to be thankful for, even though I am sitting here on this computer while snow piles up outside my door!

Take care, Ibrahim,

Crys

Ibrahim I think it's pretty much considered a harvest festival in the United States, It's not a Christian holiday, it's for everyone, though I would not be surprised if it was  perhaps a day of mourning for some Native Americans.

Incidently other countries including Canada do have their own Thanksgiving/Harvest celebrations:

Okay I am mistaken, I've just called one of my friends who is Christian and he explained to me it is not a Christian occasion, they only invite their expatriate friends living here (Canadian, American and sometime Dutch) to have Turkey at their home. Me attending one of those dinners in 2008 thought it is also our Jordanian Christians occasion, sorry for that, I feel embarrassed, I apologize.

I add: adding more to my embarrassment, today I sent Thanks Giving congratulations e mails to all my Christian friends in Jordan, US, Canada, Germany, Holland, Czech, Slovakia and France, what have I done !!!

You have nothing to apologize for and absolutely shouldn't be embarrassed, my friend.   In fact I would imagine your friends that you sent emails to were probably just happy that you thought of them at all.

 Sueincc,

Good to know from you and Crys it is American, some of the friends sent me thank you notes without saying it is not related to them, lol.

I am thankful for the patience I have been given to deal with the small stuff in life that complicates things and makes life difficult, and for my family and friends, and for FREEDOM....

Also, for all the good food and for  family and friends that shared it with me....

I am also thankful   that Quarter horse racing has once again started here in Louisiana and for the New Orleans Saints that always find a way to prove themselves worthy to be called Super Bowl Champions...

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone...

Indeed Sue, my husband does not celebrate Thanksgiving as a National Holiday, nor Columbus Day, nor the Fourth of July. He celebrates a personal Thanksgiving for all we have been blessed with, & although he's not a big turkey fan, he loves all the other cooking going on. When he was working, he also was well liked for volunteering to work on those Holidays. He liked the extra $$$, & the other guys got to spend the Holiday with their families. For those that don't lnow, my husband is a Seminole Indian. jackie harris
