alboe I haven't read all of your comment other than the last paragraph, I'm about to leave in a minute, but actually YES, that is the only route to take. If I turn left on my road I'm out on the high way and there is no room on it for me and even one dog here. Not to mention I think walking past dogs is much safer than possibly getting hit by cars. Point is, I know how to read dogs, yes the Rottie would attack, but 99% of the dogs in the neighborhood I know how to read and make back off if for whatever reason they decide to come out. So what, by walking by the Rottie is that wrong? I mean the Rotties yard is 200 feet away on the opposite side of the road I live on. He is the FIRST house we pass with dogs, there is no way around that. Sorry, but even in regards to the rest of the dogs I have learned to read dogs extremely well, I know what to do in each situation. It's not to say I know more than anyone else, it's common sense after you do it for quire a few years. I know what to do to make each dog not do anything. That's the thing, people act like the dogs will just do what they're going to do, you can mentally control 99% of the "street dogs" or whatever people want to call them. Also when am I coming up on five subjects? The rest of the dogs in the Rotties yard are small.

Cool, then you and your dog are safe. That's all that matters.
