Elkoorr

by Elkoorr on 13 October 2010 - 18:10

Jen, he looks so good because he is harmonious put together, pleasently to the eyes with none of his structural short comings being to heavy on him. Yes, his angulation could be better, especially in the front. The rear is pretty close, he is just shorter in the hocks than most of the GSDs we see today. However this should gives him a very effortlessly trott where one thinks that the toes dont touch the ground, and this is part of where his agility comes from as well. His croup might be a little steep, but appears to be of correct length. Difficult to say from this ankle, but maybe this is while you think his back is hinged? His chest cavity could be a bit lower and fuller for a better underline. so, with all that said I hope you arent crying now....LOL Its just me being really nitpicky ;)

To do a breed survey you have to have a SCHH1 or HGH title. You still can show him though but the higest rating you could get without title is SG.

I love his type and looks.  So what if he is a bit oversized and his back isn't completely perfect (very few ever are).  His head is excellent, pigment is superb, great bone.     This is a very, very nicely conformed GSD.  Would I ever buy a GSD that looks like this.  Yes, if he has good temperament and healthy joints.  This GSD is better looking than 90% of the GSDs alive today in the world.  You are very fortunate to own him and I hope you enjoy him every day.  I would if he were mine.  Yes, the Dog is all male.

(cont.)  If your dog's movement is okay and it should be, and he can complete Sch, and he measures okay for height by a breed warden during a breed survey as KK1, then the dog could easily go V.  He looks as good as many V rated dogs out there and better than a lot of them.  If the only reason he doesn't go KK1 is due to height, that in no way makes him less desireable as a beautiful pet to be enjoyed 24/7 by you.  Most would not breed him without KK1, but that is an individual choice and your right to decide.  I can't see everything clearly from the photo, but angulations look fine to me and his proportions look okay too.  I have seen a fair number of GSDs with mild to moderate angulation at both ends that have better sidegait than those with heavy angulation.  It's going to be quite difficult for anyone with deep knowledge of the standrad to pick this dog apart much.  Very few GSDs are perfect to the standard, and if your dog has a few slight diversions, so what.  Those things need to be noted and learned from, but have nothing to do with how much you can enjoy this marvelous GSD.

Thanks, all.

Ibrahim, actually, his chest is rather deep. He has been criticized for this. I think the angle of that picture must make it look flat because it certainly is not. In fact, I have wished it were flatter, as I worry more about these very deep chested dogs. He is a wider dog though, and that does "take up" some of that chest, if that makes any sense at all.

Preston, thanks for your input. His temperament is to die for. Joints are fine. And I definitely enjoy him every day. Well, most days. Sometimes he's a real pita. LOL

Elkoorr...I don't think I would go to all the trouble of undoing everything he's been taught to get a title, since most of it is contrary to sport style OB, protection, tracking, etc...but I would be pleased to have an SG....if he'd get that. I might look into it.  An HGH might be interesting though.

Oh, if I knew 7 years ago what I know now!!!

Whats wrong with a larger male dog. If he is athletic and can work. His form appears to me more than functional. Is he perfect No but he is a hell of a lot better looking than 99% of the roach backed heavily angulated dogs we see on here. Big bones and head usually equate to a masculine dog that again I think has been lost over the years. If his grips are great and his fighting drive is pronounced then he is okay in my book. If he can produce his masculinity and drives the he is a definite breeding dog. 15-20 years ago he was the norm you where importing not the exception. If he where a bi color like your female then he would be perfect......

Wrestleman, I was actually shocked at the size of a couple V rated dogs I saw in person. They were every bit as big as Caleb, though not quite as heavy boned. I was told that the Germans know how to stand them to cover their extra inch and that I shouldn't have dismissed going the "whole nine yards" with Caleb because of this. I didn't know any better back then. I stupidly assumed people were honest about their dogs' faults as I am.

I adore this dog. To me, he is the epitome of what a GSD should be, and the more dogs I meet, the more I believe this.

Yes I agree, this is everything a GSD male should be, a real stallion type male, a very, very nice GSD.

Sooooooo... what's his pedigree??   Am surprised that hasn't been asked.  Nice dog..

Overall ballance, excellent type and definate male character. More square than long, but harmonous.  The dog he reminds me of is Xito Von Maineche, which I consider a compliment.  www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/50713.html

Rik, I always called that a swayback, but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe hinged back is another term for it.

What would others here call a a topline that breaks downward behind the ribcage, as this female's does?

My male has a very slight dip, too, similar to Jenni's dog.
