It absolutely will kill fleas; you just have to be very careful to keep it out of eyes and mucous membranes due to its drying power. I haven't had any fleas to test it out on. Darn. LOL
The great thing is that it doesn't break down, so it comes out in manure in the same form. It can dramatically cut down on flies since they can't lay eggs there and any bugs that try to nest in feces/manure are killed. I've noticed a few less flies on the horses since I started using it religiously, which is really the only way you can use it.

Where do y'all get the food grade DE? The feed stores around me only sell the regular from what I've seen. Also, would the ivermectin and goat wormer be safe to use on puppies or would it be too much for their systems? If so, what do you use for your puppies?
Thanks,
Haley

Hallix:
I love the food grade DE.. I buy it at the feed store but they do not carry much of it...I have a manufacturer right here in Kilgore Tex ..so I could call and order it...but so far three of the four feed stores carry it ...call around . Funny thing is half of them do not even know what DE is..they try to sell you a mixture that some company has..don't fall for that... FOOD GRADE DE>>only..
I do not ever use Ivemectin on puppies...
Or panacur until the last worming before the pups go home at 8 or 9 weeks old.
I use pyrantel Pamoate for all pups up to 8 weeks then do a panacur three day worming before they go home. according to size of pup and age of course
Ivemec has been used at times on puppies wth scabies, by my vet..but I do not.
Ivemec is used for Red Mange but the danger of the harse chemical Ivemectin is that the males may later be sterile.
Had it happen so I know for sure it can and the vets have warned of that. Do not know about the female but Ivemec is a very strong wormer..Must be very careful not to over dose... I use very short of the real dosage for heart worms and not before 4 mos old ever.
Panacur is fine after the pups get past 8 weeks old...
I just do not care to use it first..Pyrantel P has always worked fine for me. Albon in suspension that tastes good for prevention of Cocci when pups are 8 weeks old...a 5 day dosage before they go home.
I hate chemicals in dogs or people..so I try to find other ways to do the preventative or the worming..not easy to find natural things..

Thank you YR.
Would I be able to get the pyrantel Pamoate at a tractor supply store? Is it used for dogs? If not, what is the dosage you use?
THanks again,
Haley

I got my DE from Wolf Creek Ranch; you can't miss the site if you Google DE.

Here is my story about DE, and how I found it.
I picked Dina up from the airport in June. She had a full beautiful, shiny coat, clear eyes, and perfect personality. I took her for her health check about 1 week after getting her and she was very healthy and had NO problems physically. In about a month I started noticing she was shedding a BUNCH, I assumed it was the change in weather here in CA, from OK..... I thought nothing of it and brushed her daily to make her comfortable, and it was a great chance to bond with her.
About 2 to 3 weeks went by and she kept loosing her hair around her back side.
I had her on flea and tick meds, so I knew it was not fleas, and besides... The other dogs did not have any..... I started to worry.... She was going bald!!!!!!
I went and purchased Ivomec because I thought maybe I had given her mange somehow by changing her food, and she may have had a weak immune system, so I started to add in some ProZyme I got from VM..... None of this was working, I was freaking out and almost took her back to the vet............... Then I looked at her belly and OMG FLEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not believe my eyes! This girl had fleas the whole time! So I checked everyone else. I have had them on a regular flea treatment and flea baths for everyone, with 0 results for Dina. NOBODY ELSE had them. Needless to say I was kicking myself pretty hard, and feeling like a failure. We resorted to picking branches from eucalyptus trees off the side of the road, putting it in her kennel. That was not working, and I was getting pissed!
SOOOOOOO VM came up with the idea of Diatomaceous Earth for the kennel floor, and I had never heard of it but was willing to try anything at this point. I did my research, found it at a pool supply store and also found the food grade DE. and the benefits of that too, picked that up at the feed store down the road.... VM also came up with a new flea treatment that the fleas are not immune to. I bathed her with flea shampoo, dusted her with food grade DE, dumped filter DE on her kennel floor, covered it with straw, gave her the flea treatment, and put some food grade DE in her food. I have not seen a flea on her in 2 days!!! WOOO HOOOO!!!!
