Rugers Guru,
Thank you I always have a hard time putting thoughts into words. You are exactly right if it is a black sable the dog would be all black. IMO
I am not good with the patterned looks so for me to comment on Yogies pic is not accurate as I do not know much about the patterened look.

@ SP so you say that black sables do not exist yet people with far more knowledge than you confirm and illustrate that they do!My point is that you are not the ultimate authority on color standards ! as usual you presume too much and err in your statement!

Raymond,
Try finding the phrase "Black Sable" in "The German Shepherd Dog in Word and Picture".
Good luck with that.
LF,
A full picture, to include her feet might be helpful. Hard to say, but if I had to guess, I'd say washed-out dark sable.
The real fun is when you get an extremely dark sable with striking red points [you can see the red on the back of her ear in this pic]:

Raymond look up the word sable.
Mudwick I would consider her a very dark red sable. IMO
Oh yeah and very beautiful at that, remember I am first in line to buy her.

Entirely possible.
She has the standard colored agouti undercoat.
I feel sorry for all future GSDs of mine- their color will forever be measured against hers.

Puppet there is no need to look up the word sable! http://www.shawlein.com/The_Standard/07_Colour_&_Pigment/Colour_&_Pigment.html A black is a black is a black! A black sable has other colors as a certain percentage of it's overall colorings !To say that black sables do not exist is an outright untruth

Raymond,
He's not saying that the dogs we often refer to as "black sables" don't exist. Obviously not, since I just posted a picture of one.
He's saying its improper, redundant english.
Lots of incorrect english phrases and words enter the vernacular all the time.
Ever heard the word "irregardless"?
SP,
Take a gander at her feet in that pic- all four have very, very heavy pencil markings on the toes.
I heard at one point, that heavy pencil markings like that were possibly a sign that the dog was a recessive black carrier.
True? Old wives tale?

Raymond - this dog isn't my dog - furthermore it is in my dogs pedigree - If you and sock puppet will read my post - it states
Patterned not Black ----
Why do you two have to make life so complicated.... I will start a new thread - this is hopeless..
