Isn't there some vitamin deficency that can cause someone to bruise easily?

by VomRuiz on 12 July 2010 - 18:07
Hahaha.. I know Sam. I thought it would be a great idea to train 5 dogs at once :-) I'm imagining myself on a beach with a slushy drink with a cute little umbrella in it.

Hey Stacy,
This is a good post. I've been thinking about the same thing. I'm around 5' 3", weighing about 110lbs. I handle 2 dogs.
I am pretty bruised, scratched and scared as well. My legs, arms and sides. If I wear shorts/tanks, I get looks...people probably wondering if I was abused..lol!
I usually wear long pants and my vest which helps reduces the scratches on my sides.
The thought of wearing scratch pants during training has crossed my mind...but I don't know.
I'm still thinking about it.
Sometimes I think, if the dog misses and hits your leg or arms instead of the ball, there is not much protection clothing can do in terms of bruises.
At the moment, it's my younger puppy which is causing most of the bruises because of her bad targeting.
The old male has habit of grabbing me while trying to get /playing with the ball but it's not so bad with the vest on.

Lexa,
We are not alone, a few of my friends have the same problem, so I decided to not be so embarrassed and ASK about it.
I am the same size as you so I know we can take a beating.. I do expect a few bruises, scratches and even a puncture here and there, but I just thought this was getting crazy! :-)
I think Duval's idea for the Dickies was great... We do train at night, or very early in th morning and it's still nearly 100 degrees.
hahaha Steve, good one :-)
Doberdoodle,
I started taking daily vitamins a few months ago, but I may ask my doctor next time I go about extra iron. I eat a fair amount of red meat and green leafy veggies, but I may have a deficiency anyway.

Really it is not good to keep getting marked like that. I always have cuts and marks on my arms but on a Guy no one takes any notice except to say that i am getting too slow and old to keep up with Izzy,
There is one possible solution which may help
How about an Pinafore like you wear in the kitchen, it loops around the neck and ties at the waist, If you can buy one made of of a thin lightweight kind of leather, or sometime like that so it covers your chest to your knees this will stop any abrasions from the dogs claws or rough pads on your skin, Easy to put on not cumbersome and it will not restrict your movement, this along with overalls like i wear or a good pair of tracksuit bottoms to help on the legs for your arms just wear a sweat shirt with long sleeves, like the one i sent you.
After training you can change it for a short sleeve clean one
In the hot weather i always take a clean T Shirt to change after the training, There is nothing worse than sitting having a drink with a shirt stuck to you

Hey Steve,
That is a great idea! I hadn't even thought of that. One of the helpers I trained with before had one of those for dog training.
I will contact him and see where he got it. Thanks!! Now I know why he wore it all the time... :-) It looked like an one of those iron worker aprons
I am also going to try the techniques in the videos Jason linked to me.
