1-1/2 inch thick -- I doubt that my dog could chew that up -- 1/2 inch he could handle - HA !

Maybe I'll just roll out the remainder of my mat in the garage.

Don't these horse mats get hot in the summer?  Arent they black?  Do they soak up the urine smell?

Some of you Guys are worried about Concrete Bases Why i will never know I can tell you i have used Concrete Bases for the Dogs for 60 years total, Never had a German Shepherd Dog with Bad legs, Feet of anything else all bought up with a Concrete base from 8 - 9 weeks old All dogs i had were a1 normal Hips when tested
Other Breeds i had before the G.S dogs always had the same Concrete Bases perfectly good, the youngest dog died of old age at over 14 years old the oldest 16.5 years old
All ived outside in kennels all there lives perfectly fit,  Never a leg problem in any dog
Does that answer the Concrete base Theory which many are so much against, Proof is in the Pudding 60 years of it is no luck or chance the material is suitable for Dogs
Maggie go for it you will nit regret doing it, Just remember to put a Damp membrane underneath to stop damp rising and thats it

I am not knocking concrete - my kennels only have  1 4x6 in each - the rest is concrete.  I think that it is hard on joints I believe studies show that from workers that stand on their feet all day on concrete.   If I can make my dogs a little more confortable for all the work they do for me- it is a small worry I can bear..   But I am not worried about it since I put them the mat in the kennel

The do not absorb anything they are rubber - don't smell either and so far they aren't getting hot - but they are not in direct sun either - so dunno////

Off to track and a day of training at the club.

No, they do absorb smell and the kennel he is in is covered. I have concrete kennels also, but I have not found a doghouse he doesn't rip apart. The kennel he is in has a wooden dog house on the outside of his kennel and an opening cut in the chainlink and attatched to the doghouse so he can not get to it

Melissa -- your dog is gorgeous;  I have a "soft spot" for an all black GSD, as my first one was all black.   Good idea about putting the Dog house on the outside.   Mine hasn't bothered with his house -- yet.
