Vonissk: Never had this much snow in this area in many a year. No one I found has witnessed this much.. the most anyone remembers here was around 3" and didnt stay but a few days ...many 2" and 1" snows over the years and plenty of one to three days of ice on trees but not 8" and 14 " in Dallas.
Snow was in Feb. and in January had three days with 13*, 14* 15* and up to only 22* for 5 days and creeped up to 32* and then slowly back to 40*'s.
Didn't kill any bugs or weeds either. Now today just snow dusting all day til about 4 o'clock.
Below a pic in February.

Well, DebiSue, we sometimes have the rare twister up here in the mountains of North Idaho, too...Rare, but we have seen them. It's bad enough out in the prairies to have twisters, but at least there you can see them...When one hits here, it is very hard to track and even harder to dodge.
The last ones that struck were during a nasty freak storm that went through about two years ago...Knew it was a twister that took the trees off as they were spiral broken about fifteen feet above the ground, in a trail that led through the forest in a haphazard line. Pretty weird, surveying the damage in a place like this where we don't usually see a lot of extremes. Happens every few years, though.

Please, all my Southern friends, please I beg you, "Let the Robins GO!" You must be keeping them extra long, because they aren't here up North, where they belong!

Potentially big storm headed our way. You are next Debi in Kansas........This next storm may really be a humdinger for us. Last Thursday was crappy with about 5 inches and some blizzard conditions. Yesterday was lovely, today will be decent, and late tomorrow, Tuesday, it all goes back to winter again. But I will take the moisture any day.

Sorry Bee, the Robins are still here, hopping along outside my window this morning. ;-) Lots of them too. I counted nearly 20.

Yea Bee, sorry. Loads of Robins around here. I can't remember seeing this many of them before. They are everywhere.
I just talked to my mom and she had 8" of snow but most of it is gone already. She said they actually had blizzard conditions at times.
Luvmidog, that is a beautiful snapshot. I love it when the snow is wet and heavy on the trees.
Hodie I hope all we get is rain out of that system. Last I checked we're headed back to the 50-60's today and tomorrow then showers are predicted mid week and saturday. Gonna mess up my training for the weekend, again.
Crys, any time I see twister damage I could stare at it for hours. It is amazing what that wind can do. We had friends that moved to Arkansas and bragged about getting away from the twisters. I tried to tell them the hills and valleys don't stop a twister but they pooh poohed me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, their first spring they had several. Luckily they didn't suffer any real damage but the trees got knocked down around their area and they couldn't get far from home for a couple of days. I soooo wanted to say "I told you so!" but I didn't. They honestly thought a twister wouldn't go over a hill like they have there. Yea, right! I lived in Missouri for a short time and I saw what a tornado did in the little town of Neosho in 1975. I have a lot of respect for those critters!

Love the pics, everyone. We didn't get much snow this year, so I like to see the snow pics.
DebiSue, I believe it is possible to get tornadoes just about anywhere in the world, if the conditions are right. Where those I mentioned above struck, it is mountainous. Not little rolling hills, or even minor mountains, but really big, high, rough, rocky mountains with lots of trees. They are less common here, but they happen, and they are rather shocking.
Some folks here tried to tell us that was just a freak spring windstorm...But couldn't really explain the broken trees TWISTED off fifteen to twenty feet above the ground. Another oddity was the fact that the tops of the trees, the parts twisted off, were not lying right there near the bases, like they would be if just snapped off by wind. They were lying some distance away from the bases, sometimes, hundreds of feet away.
Twisters are scary here because wind makes loud noise in the trees anyway, masking the sound of the approaching twister, and you can't see them coming. Freak storms...Yikes.
Anyway, Luvmidog, love the snow pics. Interesting about the snow that far south. I was in Nashville, Tennessee the first day of October, and it was sunny, high seventies, and beautiful. I got some incredible pictures of the Ryman and some other tourist attractions there. Then I came home, and immediately wished I could go back! Then they had winter, and I was glad I wasn't trapped in Nashville!
Interesting winter we all had this year. For those of us who had snow, our GSDs loved it. But the mud...Oakley doesn't really care for the mud...She prefers to stay clean.
