The day I pay $2000 for a vacuum, is the day my husband shoots the dogs.
How much are those Kirby bags John, or the unit itself for that matter? Too damn much I suspect.

PRIMAT CONEHEAD CAN DO THE JOB
by hodie on 21 February 2010 - 21:02
Ronnierunco,
I had forgotten about the Coneheads. Of course, using one of them when my Dyson looses suction power is the best solution!!!
What a great family they are! LOL

HODIE I REFER TO THE CONEHEADS IN BASIC DOG TRAINING AS WELL. WHEN I GIVE A CORRECTION I ALWAYS REPEAT IN A FIRM BELDAR VOICE.............MEPS....MEPS....MEPS..

Hmmm, maybe that is a command I should also use.

I do have carpeting, as well as laminate flooring, and I vacuum all of this.
My mother used to have an Electrolux...I've used Kirby, and a Dyson. Our old vacuum was a Hoover bagless.
Of all of these, the Rainbow cleans the best. It beats the Hoover bagless vacuum because although they both have to be dumped and cleaned, the bagless upright smelled like old dust...unless I put something in it to deodorize it...Filter is not washable and has to be replaced once it gets pretty plugged. The Dyson was not bad, had decent suction, and less filters to clean. But...It still has the dusty smell, even if the hair doesn't get into the cones...
The Electrolux was a good vacuum...but..filter bags had to be changed frequently. Same with the old Kirby...
My hubby bought the Rainbow on impulse...I didn't really want to pay that much for a vacuum. The eight-year warranty is what sold me on it...Who else backs a vacuum with a warranty like that, besides Oreck?
My Rainbow does a blasted fine job of vacuuming, pulls all the dirt and hair and whatever else out of my carpet. It can easily be cleaned, and although it takes more space than the dyson...I'm glad I have it. And it has a fan setting, so I can use it for an air purifier if I want to, or put a few drops of liquid potpourri in there, if I want. It's a good vacuum...

I appreciate Preston's post. After reading it, I felt like I knew where to begin to be able to access the cones. I was able to remove the two hard-to-reach screws by attaching my star hex screwdriver bit to a chopstick LOL. Unfortunately, removing those two screws first didn't do a thing. After much fuss...we were able to separate the grey pieces (not easy...required my husband stepping in) -- the two pieces separate just below the cones and just above the grey part with all of the little holes (where the outer clear canister connects at the top). I realized then that I would have been able to remove those two hard-to-reach screws very easily had I waited to remove them. In addition to those two screws, you need to separate four more parts (removing 14 screws total) to fully access the cones and clear the mega amounts of hair (!!!!!) that are capable of getting inside the cones. After clearing the clogs, I rinsed all of the pieces and used an old toothbrush to get everything as clean as possible, let them air dry and pieced it all back together.
