Is that what you would really do with a dog you had imported? Or a pup you spent alot of money on with a great family history? I am sure others have ran into this problem before. isnt there anything that can be done, cant they tape or put weights on it or anything?

I admit, I was being facetious. You got a real nice pet.

It does not matter that the GSD was "Imported". It does not matter what the GSD costs or it's Family History.....Dog's have "Show Faults and traits we do not want to pass on and we do not want to add to the already "Too Many Faults" that are being breed out there now. That GSD is going to love you unconditonally and be Loyal to you and Protective for you and Family.....isn't that what is "Important"?? To answer your question directly ...YES that is what I would do and have done. MY GSD still loves me with ALL his faults and the thousands I have spent on him....YES it sucks that I can't show him or breed his many wonderful qualities for other's to enjoy....but that is the chance one takes...no dog is perfect....but we should do our best to only breed those as close to perfection...as is possible.....
Again, sorry for his fault...but you should enjoy his many other awesome qualities he has and will always share and enjoy with you.......Think about it!
Have you no faults? I know I do....and I sure wouldn't want someone attaching weights to me or tape to try and "Fix" a fault I was born with........

Enjoy your great GSD
You could be much worse off........be in Haiti.......ya know...

Thanks Max and Yes I agree, just disappointed, thats all. He is only 5 months old and was looking pretty good to me and really was just curious if there was something I could do, or if something caused this like his tail getting caught in a kennel door or something. All his sibblings were ok and his parents and so on. Just wasnt sure if this would correct its self or if there was anything the show line breeders do if this happens, thats all. But I do thank you for the advice. And yes I will love him no matter what.

Have you contacted the breeder you got him from? Have you shown them these pic's? Do you have a "Show" contract with the breeder? You could also have him x-ray'd too...just to be totally sure. I know I exhausted all means before I gave in...and realized the way things were......you sound like you would too.....cost a few more bucks...but he is worth it...ya know. The way I look at it now is....even with all the problems my boy has...I wouldn't trade him for the number 1 GSD in the world. If your breeder is worth anything and you contracted for a Show Quality Pup" then I would contact them and give them the chance to make it right...IMHO  Good Luck!

Thanks Max, I understand all you are saying.   I was just curious as to ideas of what this could be or why and if it can be corrected like they correct ears and things. I am new to this and was basically looking for ideas or hope or help. LOL. I will have ex rays done but not sure what I am having them look for.

Max, 1 more thing please. Is it possible that like someone above said about the tail being to long and the dog not wanting it to touch the ground, it is pretty long. Oh yeah and by the way what do you think on his looks and that is for everyone. thanks

His tail should be in the form of a sabre......not curly or twisted. Yes, my boy's tail touches the ground and the tip curves up a bit as if he were trying to keep  it from touching. But it still forms a sabre it is not twisted/curled/kinked. The reason I said x-ray, you could Insure it was not from a structure injury. As I said IMHO..in your pic's it does not "Appear" to be from an injury,  I think he is a very handsome Pup from these pic's...but I am not qualified to "Judge" him...he does look real good to me though. He has great eyes and expression, real nice ears and head from these pic's for a 5 month old pup...IMHO Not ALL breeders would demand his return for another Pup of show quality....especially if he has a loving forever home already...they may demand a neuter contract though...and they should get if the tail is a genetic fault...IMHO I would contact the breeder and show them your pic's and a vet report so they know you are being truthful....let them show the type of breeder they are.......what have you got to lose??

Just reading this made me think of my now 3.5 year old female and and I realised she no longer does this with her tail.

She is a show female and as a youngster she would often twist her tail to the side as your puppy does I did keep trimming the end of her tail to keep it off the ground. ----- I cannot say when she stopped doing this --- I guess I just stopped worrying about it and didn't even notice that  she stopped holding it like that.
She has had a litter  of  7 puppies and none of them have a tail problem.

Here is is at a recent show with her very normal tail.
