I was trained privately by one man after around 3 years training i had my first contest and all together i think about 23 winning 21 of them the two that beat me i think i beat twice again to know i was better But it was not the contests that interested me it was the knowledge i gained from it, For this person taught me much more than the Karate techniques, He taught me how to disable a person very quickly indeed and even more I did win a few Medals and these i hocked to the Pawn broker when i wanted to raise cash for a deposit on a house, i never saw them again but it went a long way to get the money i wanted as they were gold not heavy but still worth a bit at the time, Plus it did in my life come in very useful but we will not go into that part again, Yes it was good fun hard work training 5 days a week in the evenings, and painful as well but i loved it, a stupid thing stopped me in the end but thats the way it goes, but a thing i can look back on and think of the old days, as regards a coloured Belt i always had the same one holding me to gether, I did ask him but he said what does the colour of a belt do for you nothing, you know how good you are, and i know how good and bad you are so that is all that matters, i never asked again, but i still think of him sometimes for he was like a father after all those years
In those years there was supposingly two grades one called Kyu meaning step, the other Dan meaning degree, Kyu there are 8 steps, the Dan grade always wears a Black belt normally the uniform is white, mine was black at the time i think it was a made up suit but it did the job well enough

Steve,
I'm sorry to hear you had to end your martial arts career :(
I don't know why I didn't realize that Goran was Zasko's son. Must've been a blond thing that I overlooked. hehehe I believe that litter was one of the others I had a choice from when I got Galan (I believe I mentioned that to you.) Goran looks to be a BIG boy as Zasko looks. I know that photos can be deceiving. Are they that big? What are their respective weights approximately?
Also I LOVE Goran's pigment. Nice and dark. Fine dog there Steve. Looking forward to some more photos of both him and Izzy
