Looks like you are getting some good advice. Yesterday there was little response to your question. Personally I like a revolver, never an issue with jamming etc. Good luck!

2 Moons..If you think 1911s are simple, try a Glock or Makarov.
Maks have only 26 parts in the whole gun. Thats half that of a 1911
Glocks are also very simple and slightly more-34.

Revolvers are cool, no doubt.
Idiot Proof.
Its been said a Revolver is a good defensive gun, a semi auto-an offensive gun.

i love my glock, but nothing even comes close to my hk usp tactical 45 if you have never fired one you are missing out !

I have myriad handguns for different reasons. Glock 21C 'cuz I like .45's and it's super accurate coming right out of the box. Walther P99QA in a .40 because statistically .40's have the highest rating for 1 shot stops. A Sig Sauer P232 for the wife to carry on the road. But if I need to follow the old sniper cliche of "1 shot, 1 kill", I have one word to say,,,,"KIMBER". I'll stand up next to just about anyone with my Kimber Custom Eclipse .45 ACP 1911. The most accurate semi-auto I have ever fired.

Dress up in a Red Sox uniform and go to Yankee Stadium with your dog. That should give the dog some excellent foundation work in personal protection. (lol)

You should see the complaint section on Kimbers... Go to AR15 Forum. Handgun section. It is non stop.
I will never own a 45.
I want guns I dont have to constatnly tweak and hope they work with all ammo.
Overpriced, precision ferraris that sometimes work and sometimes dont.

Glock, Sig, HK, Makarov OR Revolver. Nothing else for me.
To that end, I like AK47s. Take your AR 15s.
I'll take the gun Freedom Fighters choose the world over, a Peasant weapon.
One that can be field stripped anywhere by anyone, after firing 1000s of rounds and still go boom.
Every time.
In sand, mud, rain, snow and ice. Simple for me. Simple works. Less parts=Less can go wrong.
But if youre happy, thats all that matters.
(I do like your choice in HKs)
