You can't judge all pit bull's just by 1 bad one. I personally have a PIt Bull/Lab mix that I pulled out of the kill shelter, and he has been the absolute best dog to me, friends/family and my other dog's. It just makes me sick when people start to knock down Pit's when they should be doing something to the people that raise them. I have had this dog since he was 1 1/2-2 years old, not knowing how he was brought up. He is now 6 1/2-7 years old. Was it a risk for me? yes it was, but I would never give him up or think that I should have never saved him from the kill shelter. It's a sad shame that all you hear is the bad stories on these gorgeous Pit Bull's, and not the good one's. Like the time an older lady was walking thru a field only to discover that a red chow was coming at her. The chow attacked her and brought her to the ground. She said her whole life flashed before her eye's. At that same time she saw 2 Pit Bull's charging her way and she said that's it I'm done for. She then saw that the Pit Bull's attacked the Chow and ran it off, and left the her alone. They never came back, and that's the last time she ever saw them too.  The Pit Bull's saved her life literally. You just don't hear those kinds of stories, only the bad. Oh by the way this was a true story too.

As for the people doing this breeding, well you all said and feel the same way I do about it.

i didn't judge "all pit bull mixes" i just stated

"all dogs are potential attackers, pit bulls / pit bull mixes are more so the others.............."

i hear and see the news....somethimes its another type of dog but ..more often then not, its a pit or a pit mix that mauled a baby or bit a man.......

there was a GSD the bit a skiier in the put last fall......and about 10 dog bite cases in houston alone in which pti or pit bull's were involved................

yes some or even most can be the best dogs in the world.......i'v had my fill of them.

I wasn't pointing you out SitasMom, and didn't mean to if that's how it came across then I apologize.  It's just that I get sooo frustrated when all the bad things that Pits do are brought up or heard in the headline news. I have never seen or heard the good that some Pit's/Pit mixes do in the headline news. The one I just wrote about was on our local radio station, but GOD forbid you get that in the headline news, Pit Bull's doing something good, and saving some woman's life. Even the Little Rascal show had a Pit Bull on there. I guess I get more frustrated b/c I have a Pit Bull/Lab mix. He even goes to my pups that will be a week old tomorrow and gives them a cleaning when I'm with the puppies!!! He leaves them alone unless I am with the pups, then he will come up and give them kisses and clean them. I trust him with my life and my dog's and obviously mom (Anka) does too.

Just being frustrated.

Pit bulls and such breeds aren't necessarily bad, but the average pet owner has a hard enough time handling their Maltipoo. The problem with a lot of pits is that they look small compared to their strength and jaw capabilities, and people, even more than abusing them, baby them too much and give the dog inadequate leadership. I have encountered pit bulls that give off every sign of thinking my own pup was prey, yet the owner not only did not recognize this, they also went into a tirade of how stereotyped their dogs are and are only wanting to make friends and feel absolutely insulted that I would even dare cross the street to avoid their dog. Treat them like any other high-drive, high-maintenance working breed--no more, no less. But that obviously isn't going to happen any time soon now is it?

My neighbor took her two beagles on a "nature walk" with her friend and coworker who has two rescued Pits.  Both are educated women and work as  RNs in the ER at one of our hospitals.  The beagles were off leash and doing what beagles do.  The Pits were both on leash.  Apparently the owner had a Pit on either side of her and for whatever reason decided to have them switch sides.  The dogs went crazy attacking each other like Pits can do.  The fool woman tried to pull them apart and ended up with such severe injuries to her hands she had to have emergency surgery as soon as the got to the ER.  My neighbor scooped up her beagles who tried to join the fray and ran back to the car to call for help.  She did not call 911 because her friend was screaming "don't call 911.  They will kill my dogs"  By the time she was off the phone having talked to another friend and getting no help whatsoever, the injured  friend had gathered up her two dogs somehow and made it back to the car.  They loaded up the dogs and drove straight to the ER.

I haven't asked but i'm pretty sure the woman still has both dogs since they are her "babies" and it was all her fault as far as she is concerned.  Both dogs have always gotten along and unfortunately for all involved, the woman has more heart than brains.  I babysat a Pit and loved her dearly but I was always on guard with her, it just never ends.  She never caused me a problem but she was very dog aggressive. You must be constantly vigilant and read that body language.

These two people are idiots and should be neutered as well as their dogs.
