"To Serve Man"  That was one of my favorite bad sci-fi movies.  LOL  Hadn't thought if it in years.  Thanks Nia, I needed a laugh.

"To Serve Man" was a "Twilight Zone" episode and one of my very favorites. (You will NOT find any episode of any TV series in the last 20 years having that type of iconic status). I hope the non-Americans "get it." If not, in a nutshell: Aliens come to Earth, and have a BOOK titled "To Serve Man," that humans take as the aliens' credo or blueprint for contact with Earth. Major scientists try to discipher the book. Meanwhile, the aliens offer us cures for diseases and really make friends. Then, they start this program of trips to their paradise planet. People sign up in droves. As one of the main scientist is boarding the spaceship, a colleague runs up and screams to him not to go, that "To Serve Man" is NOT the plan for interplanetary cooperation, but a COOK BOOK. The aliens EAT humans and all their "humanitarian" efforts to get us healthy and increase the food supply is to make us healthier, more abundant and flavorful for their dinner tables.

What's so very funny about that episode, 'To Serve Man', is that they perfectly captured the government responce of fawning & smiling over 'our new friends'......& I think the scientists wife or girlfriend was getting on the spaceship when he comes out screaming 'No! Don't go----IT'S A COOKBOOK!' I love that episode, couldn't remember if it was the twilight zone or the other sci-fi show that was on back in the day..& you're right, TV has lost it's ability to create memorable viewing.......just so much drizzle now! I didn't realize it was a short story in print first, thanks! jh

The other show you are thinking of isd probably the old "Outer Limits." The original from the 60s, not the sorry "new" version from the 90s. The writing for both original series was far and above anything on televsion since. Sadly.

this is like the "end of the world prophets" that are always around - thousands of years now various prophets have said the world is coming to an end, yet we're still here

imo the best way to handle "epidemics" is keep moving toward happiness, stop buying into mass media fear mongering (it's all for ratings - big profit in high drama), focus on what you can do to make your life and those around happier, reduce stress by focusing on & enjoy all the good stuff and improving the no-so-good stuff.

like bobbie mcferrin says: "don't worry be happy"
and to paraphrase the dalai lama  - focus on what you can do to effect the change you want and don't worry about that which you can't do anything about.

i recently heard that the swine flu is far less deadly than the flu's we content with every year.  personally i think this is the same as parvo - a "for profit" manufactured virus, maybe they are both part of some greater conspiracy - testing bio-warfare - who knows, but i don't care because i believe what salk talked about right before he died - viruses are not to be fought because we can't win that war, instead we need to learn to live with them - so imo stop fearing them and start realizing that the human body is truly amazing in it's ability to adapt.  and as we well know virus have the same ability - cooperation is the key - the biggest block to this is stress and fear, so do yourself a favor and relax and enjoy your life the viruses will come around

They once said America would have a black president when pigs flew. Well, one hundred days in and- swine flu. No conspiracy if you stretch it a bit.
