Here is a "purebred" Minnesota farm dog we had in for training a few years ago.

Uberland : I can tell that is a pure bred sable pup with a wash out... The one above I was going to use the word "Wash out" but didn't want ldd to erupt on me..I am blunt sometimes and I know Molly is. We don't ride fences.
The difference in your face , Uberland is the nail point face of the first poster, lmd, is much more stream line..The look in the face is completely different...Because I raise Sables, I see the faces from birth till death and the elongated snout on the LDD is not like a purebred shepherd.
Doesn't matter, though, it doesn't take away the beauty of the dog of lmd. Very striking picture and makes a pretty sitting pose , also.
The face on Heidi is one of the more slender females of mine. SHe is only 11 months in this pic..But the head structure and image is one of a gsd . , missing in the one posted on first posting.

Whether the dog in question and London happen to be purebred GSDs matters not, they are all wolf sables. The pattern is distinct and well known in many other breeds but can express in many different forms depending on the presence of other genes and modifiers. When mask, and possibly other dark modifiers common to the GSD are present, the light tan (not white, just very pale tan) on face, chest, legs etc, is not visible. Also the presence of recessive black as a heterozygote on the A locus - Awa, gives a dark overlay and appearance of a mask.

This pup is on Craigslist... says purebred gsd is this possible?I've never seen anything like it.... (but I've only owned one non-white) or maybe it's just the camera?

violet: I did a google search - and it sure looks like one of those utonegans. I was not so much thinking of the breed but the name of the color. Now that you mention it though - it's strikingly similar to those hybrid dogs.
Yellow Rose - you needn't worry about me erupting, LOL! I find the displays of emotion here to be fascinating, but I'm really not prone to engage in it. (Although you will see a completely irreverent side to me, to be sure) I'm totally curious about colors, that's all. It's not my dog - I just saw the photo on the internet.
The puppy from Craigslist looks like a photochop, although reading the ad doesn't look like the person was trying to do it.

Start with a SABLE (AGOUTI) gene -- you only need one as they are dominant.
DILUTE THE UNDERCOAT TO A HUSKY/MALAMUTE NEAR-WHITE. This takes selection for very dilute pigments in parents and back.
LOSE the genes for the black mask. (I think the mask gene is partially dominant, so you need to be homozygous clear to lose it completely).
What you get doesn't look purebred, but it can nonetheless be a pure gsd with a very odd look. Not a "throwback" in any magical sense, just a rare combination of uncommon and generally undesirable genes.
