I'm no breeder here, but if it were me, at this stage of the game, I wouldn't worry about restricted the food either.  Feed her what she'll eat.  I know I did at the end of my pregnancy.  LOL  At that point, I really just didn't care!  Though didn't gain a whole lot either, so towards the end, I figured what the heck!

My older female had a litter (owed the breeder a litter) and I ended up whelping the litter at home here.  She was HUGE, normally 60 pounds, went up to 82, had 11 puppies.  I didn't restrict her food much, but she obviously could have eaten more food and gained more.  When she was done whelping, it was ALL puppy, as she was actually kinda thin when done.

She is now refusing to eat food that has anything in or on it....she only wants dry kibble or to eat off of my plate. I don't normally feed off of my plate so this is a new thing for her to want to. Any suggestions?

We brought in the whelping box this morning and she's made herself right at home....has about 2 1/2 weeks to go. I am sooo excited but nervous....even more so than with my other female over 3 yrs ago.

give her what she wants.  She's probably getting miserable and it will just get worse.  when my girl had 11,  She didn't really eat about a week before whelping.  she just didn't have any room.

My bitch had a litter of 14 puppies all healthy all survived. As a rule I do not do ultrasounds or xray etc. I fed her all she wanted and she and the puppies did great.

Feed at will and often.

Add calcium and vitamin E (to help with uterine inertia for last pups).

Your job obviously happens later after the pups are out and growing.

Good luck.

Feed her human food then. Rice, fruit, vegetables and eggs cooked together. I always give raw meat and bones as well .

My litters average from 7 to 13. One female 9-13 pups on average. Free feed, be prepared to have to bribe her in the end to eat. I always had to mix Old mother hubbard moist food or Merricks canned in with dry. Get a scale to weigh in grams (not just ounces). Grams makes it easier to spot if anyone is in trouble fairly quickly. My litter of 13 I supplemented as it was hard for everyone to gain weight consistantly at the same time. So I would always top off those who nursed but still weren't gaining. I do a homemade formula and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Regular curved baby bottle, not even the animals ones, seem to work better for me. Angela
