I let mine by away! I bought Firemans Overalls from Dickes and they are tough then any scratch pants, as well use very BIG Jogging pants for this. I buy ones that are about 3 sizes too big. The only bad thing I ever did was teach them to play mops. When I would take one to work when I owned a Janitorial service it was hard to work, lol. They would want to play with the mop all evening!

Shezam1,

I do not want to hijack this thread, but I will just say that I lack the experience many on this board have.  I like to think I have good dog sense, I study them, watch them and rarely stick to a method or formula for each dog. My experience is from the past.  Way way too many variables when working with dogs to put them in a box.  As far as cardinal sins I am just speaking of those things that will cause a dog to die or cause harm to an inocent person.  A dog or even a pup that shows aggression to a child is not acceptable, this for me is a cardinal sin and I will deal with it.  A dog that lunges out of a car or any door that leads to a busy street without permission is a cardinal sin.  While visiting my daughter she went to let the pup out of her hatchback and the pup lunged out and came close to getting hit by a car.  I asked her why she allowed this but she had no good answer, she had just not thought it through.  In about 1 minute we had the dog waiting for permission to get out of the car.  Not hard to teach. Many people do not see the potential problems that a simple innappropriate behavior can lead to.  I don't think a puppy jumping on a small child and knocking them down is appropriate, it will only get worse, so I do not allow it.  Cardinal sins= anything that left unchecked can lead to the dogs death or harm to an innocent victum.  As far as getting a ddr dog, you are write in waiting and not getting ripped.  Take a look at the ddr/czech crosses if you are looking at working dogs.
Thanks

pups absolutely.  i let them bite whatever they want to.  when they start to make me bleed, i pull them off of me and focus them to a bite toy.   old sleeve covers or bite pillows are great. show them what you want them to play with.

NEVER TRY TO MAKE DRIVE LESS.  if you hinder it at a young age you may regret it later.

just my thoughts

Just curious where can you get those leg sleeves? I know quite a few experienced helpers in police and PP, but haven't talked to them in some time.  I do remember that video of the young puppy doing bite work on the leg "sleeves" Anyone know where you can get them?  In my previous post about his grip not being right....I think that tug was too big for him. I got the rag out, and he had a full grip every time.

RayAllen.com has the leg sleeves but being that you are NEW and have not done bite work I would not do this yourself for risk of ruining your dog!  It is pretty common to hear "you always ruin your first dog."  I am sure, since you made such an investment in this puppy, that you do not want to screw him up out of your own inexperience!

I don't see the point of not redirecting them from your legs, to something more attractive that you'll have better contol of, and less chance of causing any injury to them.  I will normally wear cowboy boots, because the throat of them offers more flexible give for easier gripping and little chance of you feeling anything.  A single pup is less problem than three or four trying to hang on while you're trying to move along, but unless you're imprinting for leg bites, why bother?
