I can only speak from my own experience, so please understand I don't mean any offense, but I would have to think long and hard before I'd buy from a strictly show line...in ANY breed. My experience with the show world was pretty bad. I now have a dog from balanced lines that show and work. I would trust him 100%.

John,
You hit it on the head for me: SL folks talking the talk and failing (refusing) to walk. The dogs are what they are and I accept them for what they are. To each his own. But, the raving/applause/hyperbole over SL doing next to nothing, or less, frosts me. I have heard so much expounding on the "awesome bitework" or "nerve" of crappers I have seen and watched regularly that it makes me want to scream. And it is always from folks who have never picked up a leash.

jfletcher, did you see the video on America's Funniest where the German Shepherd, ignores the chair blocking the fridge, grabs the handle, opens it, helps himself to a pork chop, then goes back for a hunk of cheese, moments before the owner is heard saying, "Dammit, NOT again!" At which point the dog does a quick slinking away for a disappearing act.
Not a beer, I know but it was really funny!

I was on the road all last summer. I had a good strong selection of both show and working lines in the trailer and the van. Guess which dog I let out of the crate when I pulled over to nap at rest stops in the middle of the night?
Yup, Fluffy the Show Dog. (aka V-A Ronaldo)
Never slept better in my life.

Shelley,
i have seen Ronaldo several times i am convinced he would bite in serious situation. We must all agree that real life and the sport is totally different. many top working dogs will bite the sleeve but in real life who knows. Show and working dogs doesn't play into the character of dog. I agree most people show and working never really work their own dogs. After doing so they will change their opinions on the what is truly a working dog. I think we are making moves towards that these days.

Hi Shelley.
There are not many dog lovers left like you.
You love Shepherds for what they are.
I met you at the Peterborough trial, last summer.
I know you do not know me by name, but you would know me by face.
I hope God will ritchly bless you in the future.
