Very easy to search for OFA records. OFA has an OFA pedigree tree feature, for hips, elbows, and more. One for each pedigree. You do not need to page back and forth.

Optimal calcium and rate of growth (calories intake) during puppyhood , but less so with protein content of the food, have significant impact on  hip development.

starrchar: I'm not sure but something about all the feeding requirements etc., rang some bells and red flags in my head! I can't remember who it was being complained about, but it was not a good breeder-buyer relationship. It might hit me, the name, and when it does I'll be sure to let you know. If you want to pm me the breeders name maybe it will help jog my memory, in case it is the same breeder, just so you can have the whole picture.

starrchar,
I do not believe you were being too hasty.

Depends on your own standards and what you want.

Higher goals is no crime.

It also depends on who happens to be reading the xray that was submitted.....

yes OFA Fair is still a passing hip score..

My own experience with two of my dogs is this.  Both were "a" normal at 12 months of age with the SV.  ZW's 77 and 69 respectively.  I submitted both to the OFA, my female was done at 2 1/2 years of age and came back OFA Excellent.  I did my male at 6 years of age, and he came back OFA Fair.   So yes, an "a" normal hip rating can be either OFA Excellent, Good, or Fair.

But would probably prefer not a Fair/Fair breeding.....

Personally, I would not breed a fair to a fair - or buy a pup from such a pairing.  IMO breeders should work on improving hip ratings as well as structure, pigment, temperament - etc - the puppies should be BETTER than the parents in every way - or at least that should be the goal when deciding on breeding partners.  If I have a fair female, I would only look for Good to Excellent stud dogs that have all other qualities I'm looking for in the match.  But maybe that's just me.

Well I wonder how many breeders are going to admit to having a dysplastic pup or two come back from 2 OFA good parents  ?? Anyone care to enlighten us on first hand info.

If the offspring's OFA x-ray were submitted to OFA, only the owner of the offspring can block disclosure.

The buyer of a HD pup can threaten to post results of the pup, the breeder cannot block it. I believe.

If i were the owner of a great stud, I would stipulate that all bitches I breed to be OFA H&E.

Only the owner submitting x-rays, or at least who evers paying the bill and signs the papers can check the box on the form.
