Bob, I think he meant when she is of age to breed he was hoping she'd OFA ect. He does work his dogs, has titled them so I assume this would be the case for the pup we are speaking of. I think the concern was that she is working out so nicely for him RIGHT NOW that she's showing "potential" to be breed worthy when that time comes but he's worried about that ear not coming up yet.

I think Larry Filo taught him well..He is stressed because he wants the best for his kennel and for titling and of course he will breed her. After hips and after her Schutz 1. He has an investment..Why would you not want to do all the above.

Do you know what,
I have not even bothered to take note if 10 week old Heidi has her ears up or down at this moment
I am more to checking that she stays well at this age only been here 8 days now, What if her ears do not stand up, then i have a problem
To get rid of her, and get a new Pup
Believe me i am not a soft man as very many in the past will vouch for,
But Dogs are like Children they are flesh and blood, will you trade one of your kids because it has big stuck out ears, i think not,
so why the dog, it does not know it has a fault, and if it is showing other qualities you like, then why ask others
Going back to young Heidi
In all probability she is going to be a Long Hair, I already have one and i did not really want another
So i am the same as you shall i get rid of her because of her coat and i have only had her 8 days it would be easy to part with her, but i was the one who picked her
But no chance of me doing that, i can see other qualities in the pup that will more than make up for the lengh of her coat and i will be repaid for not letting her go, of that i am sure
My brother asked me what i was going to do about to do about it,
i said she is here to stay long coat or not

Steve: The difference between your situation and Zeus 's is a big difference...His dogs are i nvestments for his kennel and yes his family..But when you buy for kennel and breed excellence, you dont keep a dog in your program if it is not up to standard...It is a tough love job to part with them..especially when the kids and the wife are helping in the business end and they get attached...but when it is doing the Heart or the BRAIN...HE WILL MAKE THAT WISE CHOICE..THIS IS WHY HE IS questioning about the fault of ears not coming up...
I bet the ears come up....unless it is from a bloodline that is known to have ear problems..Someone on another thread mentioned a dog that is a DDR that does have ear faults...didnt go look for the thread..

When I mention that I want to use her for breeding it is because I would only breed a female that works. Now whether or not she is officially titled or not is not a concern. My dogs are titled for me and I believe if you are going to buy a dog or puppy you should see the parents work not trust in a piece of paper that says they are trained. Yes I will title her in mostl likely SDA protection work. Also hips will be checked. She is really a super nice female so far. thanks

My Dogs are not bought as house pets. they are extremely well bred from proven ScHh lines which have performed well with pedigrees as good as any
Now i do not call my place a kennel i do not breed Dogs to make money from them
But my Pups will have to work on the ScHh field, and i do not think anyone person on this forum works at that more than i do, So i expect the Dogs when old enough to perform,
and the one now gone was a huge prospect as thought by some of the best trainers and owners in the Belgium dog sport
and another one is showing huge potential and he will go on to do very well.
Pup Heidi it is too early but she shows all the neccessary little quirks that she will have a very good abitity to work
This case is no different from mine, except if he wants to Show the Dog that is the only difference
If it is a Working Line then if the ears are up or down that will not make any difference to the working ability of the Dog
NOW, if he wishes to breed from the same Dog before it gets any titles then that again is a different thing
And then again in my opinion, no Dog should be bred from Working or Showline unless it has accomplised itself at the highest level, Sport or Show
For me that is not the way to improve a breed working or show line ,
but them how many people want to really improve the breed of the G.S, They breed from there Dogs but how many are really worthy of being bred, how many Champions are there, mostly they breed for personal gain
And it is only from the very best that exist, should ever be bred from
As for my two present Pups The Sire of one is SCHH3, proving to be a very good Breeder He is KKL1, has performed well in many top Competitions, with consistent scores in all phases in the upper 90's His Dam is ScHh3 KKL2 again the same, Heidi her Sire SCHh3 KKL2 won several big Trials with scores consistantly in the mid to upper 90's each time he trialled So yes they are bred from excellent Dogs consisent working and with excellent Pedigrees
And this is the difference of ScHh 3 Dogs
You can get the grade of ScHh3 and only just scrape through with low scores,
Then you can get ScHh 3 with High scores in all three phases, that is the difference of owning a Good ScHh3 dog
And the ones who only just scrape through to gain there ScHh3, on watching around 14 competitions this last year the same dogs finish with low scores, and i take careful note on what is what, There are not many top ScHh3 dogs about not the very good ones, and that is fact in any country
BUT if they do not perform at the highest level themselves and go up the ladder to WUSV standards then i would not even dream of breeding from them even if i were a breeder of Dogs
But it seems to me by reading these posts that a lot of you guys in the USA think because you spend a bit of money on a Pup then you think it is your right to breed from it,
But most as i said are not bothering about the betterment of the breed they only do it to make money. and you cannot better a breed unless you test it out to the best standard possible before you breed from a subject, and even then it probably will not come out only in a few of the progeny
I will just go off Dogs for instance Racing Pigeons
Breeding these is harder and more complicated regards genetices than Dogs or even Race Horses,
But after 60 plus years in the sport and at the highest level equal to the WUSV in Dogs and beyond i have not bred so many great pigeons even from Champion performers which have competed at the level of two Countries we lived in and competing against ALL Europe
So what chance is there with unprove stock. a slight chance i agree but i am not bettering the breed by doing so
Many of you will say i do not know what i am talkin

Steve: You are a very versed owner of the breed. Zeus also represents those standards , too. He has the same goals as I have discussed this with him many months ago, till way into the night..He is a lot younger than you and his goals are the same. He titled Zeus with the best, and he has been taught by the best..His skills as a K-9 trainer can turn a dog inside out to get the best that dog has to offer. He has taken pains to search for a female to be able to bring the work standard the same as with Zeus..
Yes , you do know what you are talking about and you are the kind of man we need always to remind us what our BREED, STANDS FOR AND REMIND US TO PAY ATTENTION TO HOW WE THINK , and how we go about our advancement here in the USA to keep the top most excellent traits in the forefront. EXCELLENCE HAS ITS OWN REWARDS
I FEEL THAT IS WHAT ZEUS IS WANTING TO BRING TO HIS CUSTOMERS . Not only do the ears need to be proper, but she needs to portray the best of work she can , in order to be what Zeus would want to offer a breeding from.. Only then can he say
""Heads Above the Rest."
