This elitest attitude is sickening!!!!He wanted a GS puppy, he got what HE wanted and the hell with what you other people think HE SHOULD HAVE DONE. Everybody shouldn't have to research a dog to acquire one, if you want to fine!, but to impose YOUR values on others, regardless of their means or station in life, is elitest bullsh-t!!!
Furthermore, the breed wasn't created to be an elitest breed but to the contrary it was made up of a multitude of dogs to accompany shepherds herding sheep...whenever the elitest get their hands on something they inadvertently F--k it up in the name of self- righteousness. Sad!!!!!

I, for one, am thrilled & excited that the VP-elect chose our breed to share his good fortune with! May he grow up beautiful, courageous, noble, proud & strong-with steady nerves & a close bond to his family, so that all the world can see the how very wonderful our GSDs are....& maybe halt the encroachment of some of the BSLs that harm our breed's reputation & challenge our owners! jackie harris

I just think it's sad that the public isn't aware of the health issues that our breed struggles with, enough to support the breeders who work hard to health test their dogs and improve our breed. It's a shame that our leaders aren't aware enough to set a good example when it comes to that. I don't think it's elitist at all to want to encourage breeders to work toward improving the health and longevity of our breed. Without the support of the people who buy puppies, and without consumers who actively seek those breeders, it's a much harder struggle I think, like swimming upstream.

Most of the chronic health issues that accompany our breed today come from the breeding practices of these so called informed kennels that have in/linebred for decades to acquire croup, angulation, shoulder, color, gait, extremes. As a result the meidical and mental health issues have been exaggerated by these same people that hold their breeding practices as the shining examples......he'll probably have a fine dog and until you see bad wish him the best....GEESH!!!

I was also going to mention, that we should be excited that Biden at least has great taste in dog breeds! He didn't go for one of those "designer" namby pamby dogs like the Obamas have been leaning towards, lol. Although who knows what kind of dog they'd pick if their daughter didn't have allergies? They look like Golden Retriever people. How many times have we seen leaders and people of importance with a stupid Yorkie or Shih Tzu with ribbons in his hair and wearing sweaters, and say to ourselves, "Pfft! Get a REAL dog!"

I agree 100% he can buy whatever dog he wants. I do.
What doesn't make sense to me, as a non breeder and reader of dog forums ... and if the post above is true about AKC suspending his choice of breeder. I would think (given lets say... Brittneys puppy head thread) reputable breeders would have a few choice words.

Wow, this board is just getting way too ridiculous anymore. A person buys a "pet"; whom buy the way did not even come here to ask any of us for our approval or opinnion, we know nothing about the person he bought the dog from let alone know for certain it is in fact the breeder that was reported but yet this person has to be subjected to nothing but negativity....unfriggin believable people!
I hardly think a man such as Biden would not have the ability or means to properly care for a dog, be it a healthy one or sick one. It's already been stated that he will be getting the dog AFTER the dog has had it's training. This dog will likely live better than the rest of our own personal dogs if you really want to think about it. And furthermore does it REALLY make a bit of difference if he paid for the dog or if it were given to his family as a "gift"??? Are you guys implying that NONE of you have EVER "given", "gifted" a dog to anyone?? I'm sorry forgive me if this thread struck a nerve but I haven't read too many threads that DIDN'T have negativity in them lately.
It's the holiday's, be happy for those who are trying to celebrate and enjoy them by bringing some cheer to their children. If Biden would have brought a heinz 57 home I'm sure someone would have had something to say about that too. Some of you seriously need to get a life! Happy Holidays to the rest of you who are open minded and have the ability to be happy for someone else other than yourself!

Gustav, thank you for speaking up.
As for you sour grape breeders........all the publicity over the Biden puppy will do nothing but good for your own puppy sales. I notice there is no "shortage" of "exceptional" litters for sale out there. And, frankly, if it weren't for the "pet" market, I'll bet y'all would have a whole bunch of unsold puppies.
Chill out, folks. Maybe the fault actually lies within the GSD world for not doing enough work on getting info out to JohnQ.Public who just wants to give a good home to a nice dog. Or is taking some responsibility too much for this "elite" crowd?

Good for Biden,a wise choice.
Looks like they've got someone in The White House fit to run the country.(The GSD)

Actually, I applaud Senator Biden for having the good taste to choose a German Shepherd, no surprise since he has had them before. And, hiring a trainer to get the pup off to a great start is wise in his situation, since he will be very busy in the near future.
That said, if this breeder has been sanctioned by AKC in the past, it's too bad the Senator didn't buy from someone a bit more responsible.
