YellowRose-

Forgive me for my ignorance!  I thought this was an informative board not an insulting one!!!!  Well let me run right out to the store and buy a broom stick to smack my dog with!  Yeah that will help her much more!  And DUH!!!  I came here to get info for this problem, I sure as hell didn't say that me or my dog is perfect!!!  I have corrected her for it, I have tried different things that are NOT working!!  That is why I asked for others experiences and advice!  To her it is a game and I am well aware of this, I don't mind correcting my dog but I'm sorry I am not going to go beat her with a broom stick to "get her attention!"  She is a challenging dog always has been, I have been around shepherds my whole life and never met one so obsessive.  BTW- the local Library is 42 miles from me, I haven't had much time to make that trip yet ya know between  home, work, kids, animals, and "claiming the kennel."

Sam- the problem I have is when she is on a long line, she won't dare do it, but off leash is different, she knows I can't grab her quick enough!  She is too smart for her own good!  lol  When I say claiming the kennel, I mean I take it over, if I'm there and she sees me she won't come near it because I won't let her near it, if I see her walking towards it I basically run her off, that is what I have had to start doing.  Otherwise she takes over and gets a little crazy with it.  Honestly, it works for a while, but I have to always worry about her getting by and grabbing someone, she knows I watch her around the kennel, so she is a bit sneaky!

It will end the problem. NO one said beat her.. Sting her with it to make her know she is being punished..

otherwise go bye her a laptop., get her an email address and teach her to send emails.  YOU let the bad behaviour begin, so now you have to deal with it...If people with germans would stop and look and listen..Any good dog trainer will tell you when you raise from a pup....DO NOT LET YOUR PUP LEARN A HABIT UNDESIRABLE.. IT IS YOUR FAULT NOT THE PUP OR THE GSD.  IF YOU CANNOT DO THIS ..DONT BUY A DOG.

Lady , Ive been training shepherds for years, and if you dont stop her with a little hurt, you will still be yelling no until the cows come home..

I dont waste my time giving out help to those who will not listen..If you dont want to learn to do a hard correction, you dont need a working , hard , obsessive german shepherd..   Never , ever say a competition dog who you point your finger at and say. NO...ask anyone of them...

Some go to National trials with half an ear missing , and  if top trainers in Schutzhund can use electric collars, which I have never ever used,  I use a stick , just like we do in Schutzhund to show the dog he can take a lick...

If a criminal kicks your dog , what is he gonna do...So if you cant punish your poor fence fighter with a good swift kick of your boot, then get a broom stick and one good wack...then if that doesnt work , do a second good wack    then a third ,,,by that time she ought to have stung enough to stop..if not youdidnt punish her .... Do you spank your kids...???

Probably not..

Enough said..

Now all the non professionals can give their manby panby tries at correction...I do know what I am talking about..and of course, no one in Schutzhund is gonna fess up how they punish theirs....I was told to keep my mouth shut many years ago as to how to do a correct punishment on a dog that starts a bad behaviour as it may pass bad light on the sport...Well, I have never  used a pair of plier on my dog and left part of HIS ear missing and then went to Nationals.......hmmmmmm

Im tired of the pussy woosy , how do I train my poor dog out of his or her bad ;behaviour on this base...If you cannot learn how to train your dog from the get go , then you have to hurt your dog to get thru....no one said beat her or him...duh   use  your BRAIN WOMAN>>>>>>>

AS YOU CAN GUESS, I HAVE LOST MY PATIENCE WITH THIS ONE./

Gsds4fun, I don't think your hearing what the others are trying to tell you. Simply put, Each time you correct her it is not solving the problem. The VERY NEXT TIME YOU CORRECT HER DOUBLE THE PUNISHMENT!!! PHYSICALLY, NOT ORALLY. IF THAT DOES NOT GET HER TO STOP THE BEHAVIOR, DOUBLE IT FROM THE LAST PUNISHMENT PHYSICALLY!!! AND SO ON UNTIL SHE GETS IT!!! THAT MEANS CORRECTION TO THE LEVEL NEEDED ONLY, NOT BEATING YOUR DOG. TO one dog a solid correction will get the result you want. Another dog may take 10 to 50 times more intensity to accomplish the same result. If you ever had a dog that likes to kill chickens, and you want to get her to run loose with the chickens. He or she has to know that it is much worse to kill one then to live with one. I cant count the times I've heard if a dog kills a chicken, you can't stop them from killing another. Yes I have had numerous adult dogs that have had to learn to live with chickens. Yes they all learned. Without exception, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, German shepherds, Labradores. No broken bones or dead dogs, just a few good ass kickens when needed. Some would learn with a smack across the nose with my hand. Some two smacks and a foot in the butt. Some held by the throat till the nearly passed out. And one that took a stomping to get it! Like I said each is different in their learning curve. It is not abuse to teach your dog to be controlled in what ever circumstance arrises. It is your duty to teach control as a responsable pet owner.

I am very much listening to what everyone is telling me, and I am very thankful to the ones who have shared their advice without insulting me and telling me I shouldn't buy a dog.  I do believe in corrections and I certainly will try my best to make sure she gets punished the next time she attempts it, the problem is actually getting my hands on her to correct her!  As I stated above.  She knows I don't approve and she sees me coming and takes off!  I DO NOT stand out in the yard YELLING at her and pointing my finger at her the entire time she is trying to get a hold of someones ear or foot!  Hell if that worked I would certainly do it!!  lol

Yellowrose-  Whatever, I was not aware you were dog trainer of the year!!!  I do appologize for my complete ignorance, it's just that I have never heard of you before!!!  Not only are you arrogant and insulting but you know everything too!  I guess I shouldn't feel so ignorant, you insulted everyone else on this post also!  Hey WOMAN, you don't know squat about me other than I am having a problem with one of my 6 shepherds!  All of them working, hard and obsessive!!  I would appreciate it if you wouldn't have responded, obviously you are way to good for this little peasant!!  And HELL YES I smack my kids asses!!  I also smack ignorant assholes too!!  I have nothing else to say to you!!

Thank you to everyone else who posted I really appreciate it!

I just wanted to say that I just read the Thread on "Fence Fighting" and I really liked what you wrote. I think that you had a lot of great things to say. I know that if I ever need any advice with my girls that I will come to you if that is ok.

My name is Chris and I am the proud owner of 2...11 week old GSD's.. Thank you for very much for your advice and I just wanted to let you know that I found it very informative. I also own boxers and I used the broom handle on her when she was younger and she is one of the best behaved dogs I have ever owned. I know that using the broom is not hurting them an if you know how to use it correctly then you will not hurt them .. Just a little sting so they know when they are doing wrong. I love reading the posts that you put out. I have to say that I am learning alot....................

NEVER HEARD OF   YELLOWROSE:   IT IS A FLOWER OF FRIENDSHIP.....

THANKS , FOR THE PRAISES OF THE ONES WHO KNOW GOOD ADVICE WHEN THEY HEAR AND SEE IT...
