i have no doubt that all of the above said in previous threads does happen but on the whole i do think that most judges are honest and judge on the day i think the main reason for dwindling entries is cost, because of circumstances i never made the sieger i had entered, But had i made it  it would have cost me around £200 so you see thats why i think it is just down to cost  high fuel costs high entry costs then somewhere to stay food etc soon mounts up

I think judges at most shows are honest and accurate. Sure, some political placements ARE awarded from time to time, but the fact that I myself have no political clout whatsoever and have still managed to place about where I expected/hoped to so many times, makes me believe that those events are fewer than a lot of other people I know think.

Thus, I still think its costs and a lack of support for show/ ring training at the local club level that keeps a lot of people away who would otherwise be showing their dogs.

as their are more judges around the outside of the ring than in the centre why is it then when they think the judge is dishonest why dont they take it further (because in the judges opinion it was the best on the day)  and would be very hard to prove otherwise but if you think the judge was dishonest then dont show under them again make sure your club knows your feelings about this judge speak to other members of your club if they think the same mandate your club never to appoint them to judge at your club show in this way you will cut down on the old pal's act  always remember the members are the club not the committee.

Well... I think there are more judges put the "right" dogs up because they lack the courage to do anything else, than there are outright dishonest judges.

Some handlers (and owners) are rather vocal and demonstrative about what they think of the placings and some judges take heed.

Jaymesie.

I could not agree with you more.  The point i am trying to make ( playing the Devil'sAdvocate ) that it is in our own hands to rectify the dissolusion that some of us feel.  You made the same point in your second piece, and it made perfect sense.  I would not dream of tarring all judges with the same brush, but we know it goes on, and if we dont we are being Naive.

Regards Paul.

 Me again,

I have to say, after 30 years off showing dogs....  I think I can say when a dog is good and where he has to be in the ring... this was always years ago, I could tell you, maybe a few small mistakes but you can not always see that what the judge see in the ring... The last years, sometimes I would have placed dogs in the back for certain reasons... now they were in front... do those judges really think I am stuped.... I don't play the game anymore but I habe to say... I love the dogs more as before...!!!

Paulie, I will come at this with a different view lol. I know Dog breeders that show their dogs that can no longer afford AKC dog show or any other show for that matter. Times are tough

Paul   My view on it is a number of things. At the minute cost is a factor. In the north east a few of us share travel and that helps, but things like the National and now the British Seiger over two days is very costly. We spent at least a couple of hundred pounds on each and that does not include entry or any handling fees. Some of the handler’s fees are over the top, but if you want them you will have to pay for them. This brings me to my next point judges judging handlers and not the dogs. It has been said many times that if you have a well know handler you will get a second look. What is the pleasure in that, knowing the handler has got you that place and not your dog, but worse still if you know other people know that as well !!!!!!!. But then you can say that the better known handlers can pick and choose the better animals and that is why they are at the front of the class. In my opinion that is fine, but if a handler takes in something of his own breeding or by his own dog that is not the best and everyone can see it’s not the best, that really boils my piss. What about breeders that use a well-known handlers dog so that they will be 99% sure that they get that handler on the end of the lead. A quote from CRAZYDOG the same dogs winning all of the time. This is sometimes true, but if it is the best dog at the show that day, what else can the judge do. You might not agree with some of the placings a judge makes, but as long as they are honest and put up what they think is the best on the day that is fine with me. In our area at the minute there is no training clubs at all, there used to be three at one time but everyone is guilty of not supporting training clubs, either work, dark nights, or just carnt be bothered or sometimes just to far to travel. I heard at the weekend that we are probably going to loose another set of tickets, as Sammie Hunter the long standing secretary of Allertonshire has taken well earned retirement and there is know to one to take over the secretaries position.   KAREN        ZENTRUM GSD’S

Benny it is sad to see someone with your experience leave the sport.  It was not long ago that I saw a video of you teaching show ring training.  It is a shame that corruption has caused a great mentor to loose interest in the sport.
