That makes sense.  I'll read the book, thank you.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for reading material?

Just a tip - chicken liver is less disgusting baking than beef liver :) Also - I designated an old toaster oven out in the garage so my oven didn't get as nasty baking the stuff.

Petsmart and Petco here both carry BilJac, as well as Albertsons. It takes some searching at the groceries (and sometimes the pet stores!).

Also - my dog was just like yours in that his treat etiquette was beautiful at home - but we had to transition it just like an obedience command, first to the front yard, down the street, at the pet store, at the park, finally to the training field and it didn't happen particularly fast (probably because I was learning as I went!). If that is any consolation - it isn't just your girl :)

The upside is that she has a good reward system. It kills me to see GSDs (or any dog) who get to distracted by minor things in the world to even want a toy or a treat or to work.
