Liz you clearly do not fully understand how most GSD Clubs function, and also the way the GSD Breed Council functions. You and many others would do well to ask around and find out, better still get onto a Club committee, be elected or selected to go to the Breed Council and find out. I have done this myself, believe me it’s an eye opener. My approach and my comments therefore are from my knowledge and experience. Of course a proposal having the support of Clubs is vital, as is having the support of the Breed Council, but ANY set of proposals, even if drawn up by GOD himself, he would also require several miracles to have them accepted by the GSD Breed Council. I regret to say that it is simply a non achieving organisation; it has inherently become the 'blocking body' of our breed’s progress. This has stifled most people from preparing and promoting progressive ideas and proposals, for a considerable number of years within our breed. Most ideas and proposals are shunted off to a "working party" - never to see the light of day again. I hope the new Chairman brings change, believe me it cannot be soon enough for our breed.
I would also respectfully point out the GSD Breed Council is NOT "our ruling body". It has less powers than a KC licensed GSD Breed Club. It is largely a 'consultative body' drawing views together and making 'collective representation' of those views to all Breed Clubs and the Kennel Club, I and many others wish it would do this much more effectively.

In respect of my proposals, drawn from "reasons" two tier KC reg. idea, previously published on this message board, I have received a suggestion that the Class 1 Kennel Club Registrations from “Breed Health Certified” (BHC) Parents, should be named “GOLD STAR” Kennel Club Registrations. For years many reputable GSD breeders and GSD Breed Clubs, and also the GSD Breed Council have wanted some compulsory aspects of German Shepherd Dogs, particularly those related to Breed Health issues and Health screening tests, for example Hip Scoring, Haemophilia testing, and tattooing for accurate identification of each dog prior to testing.
The TWO TIER Kennel Club Registration proposals will give us this, in a manner that should be fully acceptable to the Kennel Club. By not interfering in any way whatsoever with NORMAL Kennel Club Registrations, which would continue to be available to those breeders that do not fulfil the BHC requirements on their breeding stock.
The puppy buying public will then have the “option” of buying a “GOLD STAR” Kennel Club registered puppy, with the full knowledge that BOTH parents of their ‘prospective’ puppy have been “BREED HEALTH CERTIFIED”. – giving them some meaning and some faith in the words “KENNEL CLUB REGISTERED” admittedly prefixed with the words “GOLD STAR”. OR buying a normal Kennel Club registered puppy with the knowledge that both parents have NOT been Breed Health Certified.
Just imagine the lists of GSD litters for sale in local newspapers containing the words “GOLD STAR” KC Reg, and simply KC Reg. – Now that is what I call “Clear Differentiation”, which is long overdue.
I am well aware of widespread support for my proposals throughout our breed around the country, and amongst other breeds. I am also aware that some points in my proposals may need some changes to make them acceptable to the Kennel Club and the majority of Breed Clubs. This can be done with relative ease and with the required commitment; however my greatest concern is APATHY which can be turned on at the blink of an eye within our breed.
We have at this time in our breeds history a  unique opportunity of making things much better for our GSD breed, and consequently for ALL breeds of dogs here in the UK, surely WE can unite behind such an opportunity with vigour and determination, such times of opportunity do not occur often.
THE FULL PROPOSALS ARE HERE:
http://www.videxgsd.com/Two_Tier_KC_reg.htm YOU MAY DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THEM.
Thank you for reading this post, I sincerely hope you can “actively” support these proposals.

I've got some feedback from my MP, who in turn wrote to the Secretary of State of Rural Affairs.  Apparently they are well aware and concerned about the issues that are being raised, however at the moment they would like the changes to be brought about by "breeders" not legislation.

This I think is a good thing, however how to we get everyone who is "good" onside, especially when we know there are some known breeders who admit to "bending" the ideal guidelines when it suits them?  After all earlier this year an accredited breeder didnt have a parent hipscored and results back before breeding from a stud dog, and others out there have done the same?

Hi Beepy, sounds like a classic "cop out" to me, unless they mean KC legislation, not breeders!

by beepy on 03 October 2008 - 08:10

Missbeeb - they are talking about not bringing in government legislation at this time, which is hopefully a good thing, after all look how stupid some of the new animal welfare act is.

Hi Beepy, I agree that most of the animal welfare legislation is absolutely stupid, perhaps because much of it was brought about by "knee jerk" reactions.  However, optimistic as I may be about getting something done... leaving it to the breeders???

We've asked for their support in "pushing" the KC to accept a very good 2 tier proposal, are they going to do this?

by beepy on 03 October 2008 - 14:10

I get the impression that they will - as it means they wont have to do their own thing!
