No Shiloh's in my lines.... and like I said earlier. It's not the size that's important but the health, temperament and intelligence. The most mine will get is 130Lbs and it certainly doesn't effect thier agility. Anyone of them easily jump a 6ft fence and go on large walks in the Wilderness reserve.

These are certainly not King Shepherds either....

Hi PC,

Very nice link to the 40's and 50's!

Once in a while I get people asking for the old style shepherd, they want him to grow-up and
weigh 100-130 pounds, they want him to have the traditional saddle back, I remember growing
up that's the most common color I remember.

I will not breed my shepherd's that size, I think it takes away from there ability to function, I like to
stay close to the gsd standard, color size, temperament.

My shepherd's don't have that extreme angulation but BOY can they run circles ALL day if needed!

I also like a shepherd that actually thinks on his own, he may be stubborn at times, but makes for a
great companion!

Today I am having 4 of my dogs temperament tested, I can't wait, it's alot of fun, especially at the end
when the weird stranger threatens you!   It's my B-day present, they better not screw it up

I liked the comparison with all the wild canines, after seeing their shapes, and sturdiness, one would
wonder how they could fair in the wild.....

Oops,

What I meant was one could wonder how a showline shepherd would fair in the wild,

Does his structure have the strength & endurance??

Yes... I once believed the myth that the larger ones don't have the agiltiy of the smaller ones, but after having these big girls and boys, I happen to feel alot differently. They certainly not over weight and some of the lines have schutzhund titles within thier lines.

"Bear' in particular has come from a line of K9 agility training and if you can see him jump for bubbles you would be surprised at the hieght he is able to accomplish just from a standing jump. Some just don't understand when you are breeding and looking for a certain attribute for your lines, that you just CAN'T ignore all the others. When you breed for better health, Agility, Intelligence or just size, then you better make sure that all the other attributes are equally accounted for within both Dam and Sire.

I just feel that during the German Shepherd facination of the physical appearance some have lost touch with all the other charactoristics which made the breed so great. I believe alot of breeders need to get back to the roots of the GSD.

Many here are getting back to the roots of the breed as you call it.  Keeping in the standard working sizes and weights is a critical factor.

Super pictures from the early years.  Now that is what the GSD's really were,  With all these histoical pictures available showing the dogs, how can people still say the old style 130 pound GSD?  I always think it's because when we're little kids an 80 pound dog looks HUGE.  Now that we're all grown up it takes a 130 pound dog to look the same size.

mirasmom,  Happy Birthday and Good Luck!
