Please note that "complaints" do not have to be proven or verified.  Say you have an unfriendly neighbor.  Three calls to animal control, and your dog is going to be spayed or neutered, even if those claims are false.  Imagine a dog show where the PETA people show up.  Who would want to go knowing that some whacko could show up and file a complaint?

This bill is wide open for abuse and basically allows the government to destroy your property without due process.  It's a basic violation of the constitution.

Of course, it would help if people were actually responsible for their dogs.  Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess then.

I think we still would be in the mess because you would still have PETA/HSUS people with their agenda's, and they'd just find another way to try to stop allowing animals as pets. This is just their current trend and it seems to be working in different areas.

Do you guys remember on this board awhile back when we all helped that kid win the contest of what to name the K9 in his city? We kept voting and voting and the kid won? wonder if something similar could be set up for this (which is much more important). Instead it's just keep faxing and faxing and emailing and calling. I don't really know, does it particularly help to have people from outside of cali call or fax? or do most of them only accept votes from their own districts? I know my Senator (George Runner) has already come out stating he intends to oppose it and he very clearly delineated why he intends to oppose it.

Maybe it would bump the thread if each time someone faxes, emails, or calls they post it here? and that keeps it going while at the same time doing something (not just bump)???

the lack of due process is the issue that bothers me.   as TIG so graciously pointed out, it's Levine's "ace in the hole" and completes his mission.

yup, that's part of the issue that bothers all of us. That, and the fact that the complaint doesn't even have to be proven or valid. Any neighbor with a grudge could using this, cause monetary fine on their neighbor.

And what about a criminal that makes a complaint against a K9? Would the city then have to pay the fine because technically they're breaking the law if they keep the K9's intact? remember, there's no exceptions made under the current proposal.

There is no insanity too far fetched for the California legislature. This ia a one party state. Unfortunately it is a party that believes that government knows what is best in all areas of life.

Where do they think guide dogs come from? The Stork?
