I am drawn to their beauty, intellegence and loyalty.  What other breed would get up with you on Saturday morning and work in the hot humid weather.  Get back in the car and visit your mother who just had a stroke and sit for over 2 hours in a nursing home letting her hug and pet her.  I wish I could post a picture of Molly jumping up on my mother's bed and laying her head on my mother's chest before we left yesterday.  Then we went to the Coventry Mall to help raise money thru the Canine Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.    She was one of two dogs from the event who was sent to represent our relay.  Le'ts just say that a German Shepherd in the mall certainly catches the eye of most people that passed by and Molly was a perfect representative for our beloved breed.  This breed just takes my breath away.   Time and time again my german shepherds  help me thru difficult times.  I can honestly say, I don't know what I would do without them.

I know where that is.  I am in Haslett.  I train either in Perry or at Meridian Township park behind the Meridian Mall depending on where Hector the trainer is training.  Where in Big Rapids do you train?

Don't you love the GSD stubborness and personalities???  I wouldn't trade my boneheads for world.

Trailrider,

That was Josie Whale's Cherokee friend , endeavor to persevere ?

My first dog was not a German Shepherd, it was my second dog.  I was in the forth grade and we had just moved from the city to the country.   I have also owned a couple of Irish Setter's and a couple of muts.   And I owned and bred a wolf hybrid that truely impressed me, a very intelligent animal.

The traits I admire in the GSD are not exclusive to the breed.  I believe it was just fate, karma, that I stuck with the German Shepherd all these years.   To date I have owned 11 GSD's since childhood.

The horror....LOL

as a kid, i loved the gsds in the tv shows - they were always the smart loyal dog, brave and true. i lived with one when i was in my 20's. i lived w/2 roomies in a house on an alley in long beach, ca. it wasn't the safest neighborhood. one nite, all alone, a man came to my front door. tai, the 110 lb gsd who shared the house, was laying down in the dining room. guy says he selling something (don't remember), but when i said "no thanks", he tries to come through the door. tai hit the door and the guy apparently flew to the main street - never had any prob after that. i know the dog saved my ass that nite. had some big dogs afterward, but no gsd. husband had one when his previous kids were growing up. he still waxes nostalgic about "husky". when we were looking for a dog for my son, he found a "gsd mix"; we're just about 100% convinced this girl is a malinois (maybe mix, but MALI-lol). we wanted another dog, and found tala, a gsd shelter dog. stupidly, we didn't realize that females just might not get along. both the girls were pretty strong-willed. in order to avoid a big problem (we don't "kennel" our dogs;they're with us all the time), we arranged for a gsd rescue to find her a home. tala is (was) my dog. it's been over 2 years and i still miss her. i donate $ regularly to the rescue in her name. we got angus from a very nice breeder. he's our big doofus and i am grateful for him. i can't imagine having any other breed now. i like dogs alot, but the gsd seems to be the best of all - looks, brains, their relationship to people. i really wish i could have another one, but claire and angus get along so well, that i don't want to mess anything up.

growing up, my parents always had mini doxies. funny, but what a pain in the butt!

MY FATHER HAD GSD AND MY GRANDFATHER BEFORE HIM. THERE WAS ONE AT THE SIDE OF MY MOTHER's BED THE DAY I WAS BORN!!! IT JUST SEEMED A NORMAL PART OF LIFE TO HAVE ONE AROUND. A SORT OF TRADITION I SUPPOSE. I JUST CARRIED IT ON, AS DID MY TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A TIME IN MY LIFE WHEN I HAVENT HAD AT LEAST ONE DOG AROUND.  LIFE WOULD BE ABNORMAL WITHOUT ONE!!!!  I HAVE TO CONFESS, I DO PREFER THEM TO HUMANS. THEY LOVE YOU WHETHER YOU ARE RICH OR POOR. FAT OR THIN, UGLY OR BEAUTIFUL. THEY JUST DON'T JUDGE. AND REAMIN FAITHFULL FOR A LIFETIME, UNLIKE MOST HUMANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was introduced to this great breed when I was 10, my best friend had a beautiful GSD named "woofa"  i loved him he had such a presence and was so intelligent and personality plus...I also liked the "wild" look of them, so when I was 18 and had my own place with room first thing I did was to get my own...

Kalibeck

I  first had a LC GSD for my kids, bought after our house was burgled. Grendyll was the best dog, she cuddled with my kids, who were toddlers at the time, kept an eye on my son, who was still in diapers; she would grab him by the britches, & ever so gently ease him back off the stairs when he 'd try to climb them, pull him awayy from the wood stove, and let my daughter comb her, & dress her up like she was a doll.......she was the most intelligent, patient, kind soul ever born. But let a stranger try to come near them or our home if we weren't there.....look out! And after that, I could have no other, God rest her soul. jh
