+++If you are asking about dog owners in general, most want low drive pretty lawn ornaments that will greet them when they come home from work, take walks, play with the kids, but otherwise not be too demanding of their time. Lisa (forgot to sign)+++
Gee , dont know were YOU live in this larger then life country of the USA but that is NOT the type of dog the majority people inquire or even to me about!!!
We have foundThe majority of people with the exception of those with specific training, service and conformation needs of DO desire a normal size, noble looking, mentally balanced active dogs that fit into and are included with their ACTIVe lifestyle of fishing, hiking, camping, jogging, obedience trained, hunting and socially active families. tThey do not have dogs that are lawn ornaments, they take time to train them, interact and include them in the activities and life styles. The MAJORITY of have grown up with the breed and many have participate in some venue of training. Perhaps now do not or dont care for the attitudes of the elite and wish to concentrate on things they deem more important or relevent in their particular life at the moment.
We have also found many people are not 100 mind set on show or work bloodlines or a combo, but are clear they do not want extremes in mental direction or dogs. Activity levels dont bother them in the slightest as a dog that is mentally stable and given direction has no problem settling when its appropriate. THEY ESPECIALLY desire mentally BALANCED dogs they can work with that are biddable when it comes to correction or direction and should have good pack instinct. Most do not care for an Omega types..but some are willing and accept that each dog is DIFFERENT.
But hey it could be an Pacific NorthWest thing? Remember America is vast and it can be different culturally and socially in different areas. Not sure if this is the sort of observation the origional poster was inquiring about?

Hi Debi,
Perhaps it IS a PNW thing. Most local "pet" people that inquire on dogs with me want an active, intelligent and protective companion. Some are concerned that the dog have enough energy to keep up with them, and me having working dogs, that is not a problem to provide. A dog to go hiking and camping with. A dog who, while out hiking, might save their rear end from a bad tempered moose in a tight spot. That happened here at my house recently, one of our dogs saved my 12 year old daughter from a bad tempered charging moose right in our own backyard. This isn't the first time either. "Ms. Moose" charged me also back in January, but fortunately I was close to the back door. For such big animals, moose are really easy to not see when it is early in the morning and you are groggy.
