"Dkiah thanks altho it is soprt of hard for me to understand.  I will say she carries has black on both parents' sides.  So bred to a black she would probably produce some blacks."

Ah, the black referred to in Dkiah's post is dominant black (K).  This doesn't occur in the GSD.... GSD black is recessive and on the Agouti locus.  Sorry but that info doesn't apply to this breed.

But yes, your statement above is correct and applies to recessive black.

Hi guys, pls let me butt in... :)

I'm a breeder of Belgian Malinois here in the Philippines, and am also curious about what you are talking about.

We were able to produce a brindle-like pattern in our "Helga", which is just like what you have in your GSD puppy:

(Sorry I don't know how to paste a picture here yet, )  Her pic and pedigree are in our database:

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dogs/belgian_malinois/pedigree/620010.html

Her dad "Wolf" and mom "Sheep" are both fawn.

Even their parents have never shown evidence of anything like this.

What may have happened?

Is it a deep-seated gene in their chromosomes that goes way back to connecting them to their distant relatives, the Dutch Shepherds?
