My best guess is he'll run tests for allergies, thats what I was going to ask for anyway.

My husbands service dog gets reaccuring yeast infections in his ears. Since we have introduced yogurt in to his diet the problem has seemed to subside. We also put a small amout of althletic foot powder in his ears about every other day.

I had a dog with a re curring yeast infection in only one ear, vagisil did the trick.Do not waste your money on allergy test's..if it were an allergy then he would have it in atleast both ear's if not elsewhere.

I am very interested in  finding a solution. I have a 6 yr old american line gsd. When she was 6 months old we took her swimming in the lake, before that there had never been an ear problem. Within about 2 weeks or so she was shaking her head frequently. Off to the vet and was diagnosed as an earmite infestation. Drops for that, after they were done we went back because she was still shaking her head. Vet said ear infection. He put her on anti biotics, ear flush twice a day and ear drops for ear mites once every other day.Finished the treatment, went back because she was still shaking her head, Vet prescribed a stronger antibiotic , baytril if I remember right, Antibiotic ear drps and flushs twice a day. By this time it had been going on for several months. After the last treatment and no improvement we went to another vet. Diagnosed as an ear infection and more antibiotics. It was suggested to me that it could be a food allergy, she was on Purina Puppy. I switched her to Pedigree puppy without improvement. Her ears seemed to clear up somewhat for a short time but then got bad again. Poor baby, she got to where I could not go near her in the house, she would run the other direction. I switched her food again, about that time beneful came out and I switched her to that. Her ears were an almost constant irritation. We went to several different vets over the years, allergy tested, made sure the ear mites were cleared, ears flushed by vet etc the gammut of treatments. She is now 6 and I dont think she has had 6 months solid with out ear irratation in her life. I just dont know what to do anymore, She has been tested for everything, blood profile, allergy profile, thyroid profile.  I dont know if there may be a fungal infection from the lake water or what. I have probiotics and was wondering if that might help? I did switch her to royal canine gsd formula about a week ago.  She doesnt have a yeasty smell but her poor ears, this baby is always miserable. I hadnt thought to ask the vet to check for fungas, they just keep saying there is infection and treat it as such. I am ready to try just about anything at this point to give her relief.

LeNore, give the food some time to do it's work, and probiotics could help. (as I believe enzymes could as well). You went from one lesser quality food, to another lesser quality food, to a lesser quality food (read the ingredients on all those brands of food...you can read more at www.dogfoodproject.com  it's yuck stuff all of it you were feeding before. If the royal canin doesn't help after at least 3 months, try looking at different protein sources or whatnot. But the initial 3 brands of food you tried were full of not so great stuff, so that could explain some.

I personally would never pay for allergy testing, apparently from everyone I've talked to the one test is not a sure thing at best. I'm going to try an elimination diet if I need to with my one boy. Have not had as many problems since I tried the vetraceuticals I've talked about on here before, but am watching like a hawk and if we have another recurrence I will be trying an elimination diet as I honestly think it's a food thing with my boy.
