Do not get me wrong i know these terrible things can and does happen all over the world when it comes to breeding and selling Pups.

Money is always the motivation but i am appalled by the amount of it goes on in the USA

The G.S Sites i have been on  come up with these stories so often it makes me wonder how you folks ever buy a Pup from a breeder over there

One thing is sure i expect there is the same sort of Breeders over here, but i have not heard of any stories over here to relate any where as bad as over in the USA

I thank my lucky stars that i have not had to buy my Dogs from there

But i also know there are some reputable breeders over there, but they seem to be in the minority

I feel for the people who have been caught, and of course they have to be flown from one state to another which makes it very difficult to return a Dog But i can say this without fear of not telling the truth,

Should it happen to me then the breeder who has done  it would rue the day, they would think Armogedon has come down on them

I could never have proved that the dirt-bags had taken the money from my desk after they left the property. I refunded their money just to get the dog back so I could care for her. The second one I flat stole from the back of their truck before they could get out and stop me.

I do have all the provisions listed above in my current contract, the bones of which I got from another very reputable breeder. Its 3 pages long and very specific. I do change some elements occasionally, depending on the dog I am selling: adult, import, retiring dog, dog with known breed disqualifying fault, (thank goodness I haven't had but a couple of those in the last 10 years!) spayed/neutered dog, etc. but those are rare occasions and everything is clearly laid out and understood by all parties involved.

I used to have my contract on my website, but now I just send it to the interested buyers prior to close of sale and delivery of puppy/dog, filled out with appropriate info, appropriate boxes checked. Nearly all my pups are sold on limited AKC registration, guaranteed to be changed to Full reg. once the dog is titled, OFA'd, and deemed breeding quality. Of course that option is not available with imported pups with foreign registration sent directly to buyers and dogs later registered with CKC, but at least I have some control over the ones I breed here.

No time right now, too nice a day to stay inside while the dogs sit in the kennels, but I will send it to whoever wants it later this weekend if they e-mail me privately.

I have to agree with Chuckie. What good is a contract if the breeder doesn’t plan on holding to it themselves?

I ended up with papers from CKC (will never understand what scam the breeder got away with) that doesn’t even have my bitches tattoo or name correct. My contract states the pup would come with AKC papers.

I bought the bitch from a breeder in the United States. The breeder never did fix it and I’m stuck with a couch-potato- who was supposed to have good working drives. Ho-hum

Enjoyed your posting Shelley. The dog world really is live and learn.

To Steve 1

I have been buying dogs from Germany for years and I am assuming that you are from Germany.

Believe me I could tell you some horror stories from dogs bought from Germany. These were not

pups they were grown young dogs. I didn't pay hundreds for these dogs I paid thousands of dollars

for dogs. I have bought dogs that were suppose to be pregnant and were not pregnant and some

of them never became pregnant. THis was after trips to reproduction vets. I have bought some good

or excellent dogs from Germany but I have been screwed severa times most ly by brokers in Germany.

I will never buy another dog from Germany because they offer no guarantee. And if they did offer a

guarantee and the dog was not what it was suppose to be what are you, the buyer, going to do.

You take your licks, lick your wounds and forget about it because what kind of a chance would I

have in a German court. After you have already lost several thousand on the dog why go deeper

in debt by trying to sue a German that knew he was screwing you when he sent you the dog.

Hello Hudson

Sorry you assume wrongly, i am not a German , I am an Englishman and i do not live in Germany.

Of course things happen in other countries other than the USA, but i thought this site was for G.S Topices relating to the G.S  but most posts or i should say the most represented are about bad Breeders in the USA

You can talk all you want about some one who has scammed another unsuspecting person and i feel really sorry and at times angry it has happened, but all the taslk between the board members will not change anything for the person caught, They can tell others what has happened and it may help them vent there feeling of being Done by these what ever they can be called because they are not fit to be called human, But at the end of the day they are the ones who have to fight these

B-----s.

Sorry you have been caught by these Morons and Yes, its true you are thousands of miles away and it is difficult

I do not mind telling you i Live In Belgium and i do know some Excellent Breeders over here and Genuine people it is here and Holland that my Dogs have come from,

One in particular He is the Belgian Team Schutzund Captain, a World Wide Schutzund  Judge, and a Breeder of Outstanding Working German Shepherds but most of all he Helps us train our Dogs three times a week and has bought them on a ton

I am lucky i have met very nice people and no bad ones to date, and that makes a huge difference

But that is not to say i have not been caught over here in Belgium, i have, but nothing to do with Dogs

not to steal the thread or anything, but this thread made me think of another question...what kinds of things do you breeders do to screen potential puppy buyers? To make sure that pups don't go to "dirt bags" in the first place? Not that it can always be prevented, but it seems to me that it would be pretty important to make sure the pup is going to a good home in the first place to minimize things like this happening in the first place (scum bags neglecting the dogs etc)??

I preform extensive interviews in person and/or by phone, email prior to agreeing to sell any dog or puppy. To be honest, I just use my gut instinct, which has become quite sharp over 20+ years. I can usually smell a rat a mile away...

But I have been screwed for money on the sale of a litter pick puppy by a so-called friend/neighbor (a helper) lately, who moved in across the street , bought my old farm house in May of last year, which upsets me greatly. I let him have the pup for 1/3 off in Dec. '06 with half payment. Threatened to repo puppy in April '07 and received 25% more. Now the man is apparently living somewhere else, all 4 dogs no longer in residence across the street. I do worry about the dog, and the other 3 dogs too, no optimism about ever receiving payment.  Being a "friend", and "in a hurry" when I handed him the 8 week old puppy, (Xmas time) and  whenever he came 'round, I foolishly allowed him to take the pup without signing my contract. He has no papers, guarantee, only his cancelled checks for receipts. I'm sure he knows without those things reposessing the pup could be difficulat or impossible, even if I could find him to have him served, get an emergency writ of possession perhaps, but I will be looking into legal channels this week. The man does not answer any of the 4 numbers I have for him, doesn't return VM messages. Only reported having been seen at the house once or twice since Xmas, and very briefly then. Car, 2-3 trucks, large cabin cruiser on trailer, cargo trailer in driveway, but no one in residence.

For someone who can recite scripture till the cows come home, brag about all the properties, boats, vehicles he owns, he sure hasn't done right by me, and clearly couldn't care less. The money is only a small issue. I just wish I knew the youngster was in a safe, healthy environment, receiving routine health care/maintenance.

I pray  the beautiful young dog is ok... kicking myself for trusting my so-called friend.

Steve 1

Hi Steve I have bought dogs from Belgium also and always gotten good dogs. The only ones that ever

really laid it to me was the Germans. You would think after I had been stuck one time I would not go back

for more but I was stupid enough to think that most people are basically honest. Some learn from their

mistakes and others repeat their mistakes. Guess that makes me a repeater. HUH???

Hudson

I cannot say for the breeders in Germany or even ones i do not know in Belgium

All i do know is that i will not entertain anything which is not 100% right, Its not just words coming  from me,  its a code i have lived by in my 67 years on this earth

I like it right and nothing will ever change that whislt i live

I have met some bad people since i moved to Belgium and have been caught twice to do with repairs to the House and buying a Car. One resolved to my satifaction the other still on going after 3 years But he will not win thats for sure, I will get justice and what is right

But i have met some very nice and genuine people, and they out weigh the bad ones.

More so in the other Sport of Mine Pigeon Racing and in the G.S Dog Sport

My Trainer as i said is known and respected throughout Europe, and over in the USA and other Countries Plus he is a Top G.S Breeder, and in his contacts can get most of what people are looking for if its not from his own kennel, But most of all he is a fair straight forward honest Guy and speaks fluent english

and he helps train not only our Dogs but us as well, Because All owners can improve as well as there Dogs, we tend to forget that point

There are Bad people everywhere, My Dogs are two Males, i did not want a female with the First Male, i have no interest in Breeding or the commercial side of Dogs,

Although i am only a normal working guy was a painter and decorator by trade,

My drive and ambition even at my age is to get the Dogs doing well to earn there Schutzund gradings and enter competitions, to do that will make me a very happy man

I must say that I am great ful the whole world is not the bad apples. In any venue, horses, German Shepherds, breeding, business...there have always been good and bad.

There are many types of contracts people can carry on with each other... the best of crooks from both ends can sign in blood, but if they have no scruples, then what have you?????

Sometimes it would be nice if it was still as it was in  the wild west no (G)
