I really guess Dan Smith is very knowledgeable about what he says and does    ....He carries years of credentials  and is the former president of the      GSDC and owner of Darby+Dan Shepherds and he and his wfe Sandy , both have been in the Schutzhund fields for years..and yes , her took American lines and put German Lines with them   the best of the best . , as he use to say....... He is from Red Lion , Pennsylvnia.....dont know where he is right now...

Silbersee

As long as the dog has a straight back and not a roach, it does not matter that it is extremely sloped and that he walks on his hocks.

Sorry Sunsilver, I know it is a cheap shot and I promise that I will be a good girl from now on! Friends?

Louise:  Why did he wear a yellow hard hat?

Because Fred knew he would take flak if he put up dogs from German lines--which he allegedly prefered.

Dan Smith was one of the first breeders in American to step out and go to Germany and bring back stock to breed to the American champions ...

He probably was looking at the dogs ass to see if it still passed his eagle eye....He had a goal to breed dogs   ThAT  WORKED............ Along these same years of transition to German dogs being brought over to breed was an AKC Judge

" Captain Arthur J. Haggerty of Los Angeles and he was also a member of the SV for more than 30 years.... He was one of the American akc judges that did not like the "Banana Backs,,,"     or  Roach back and he worked with the President of the SV , at that time , who was Dr. Christoph Rummel.....He addressed the topline and explained that the extreme sloping topline was the always accoumpanied by a steep or flat croup...... For several years in Germany , it disappeared only to creep back in....due to a new Sv pres who is in control of what is acceptable and what is not.....

He's obviously a Select Dog at the National Specialty (GSD Club of America).  It looks pretty recent, but I can't tell - can't read the small award board.  There is a site which lists all Selects, but I don't think it would be updated to this year since that was just last month.

Don't recognize any of the people.
