The reason I like the message board in here, is because it is very similar to political chats or message boards. People believe whatever they believe. Statistics and numbers dont count. Its almost like a religion. Ugly said ..Pits & Rotts also are some of the Most Popular breeds in the USA! It stands to reason they might have the most people bites. When I come out with statistics of pit bull biets... 32% of all dog related killings of human beings in the United States are caused by Pit Bulls attacks, yet Pit Bulls constitute only 2% of all dogs.... he blames the parents of the victimes. Yes they are to blame too. They bought the dog. On average about 27 people will be killed by a dog each year in the US, 19 of the homicide victims will be children under the age of 15. The dog that causes 3 out of 4 attacks on kids will be the "loving" family dog, such as the "friendly companion" pit bull with the wonderful disposition. Yes thats right Young and weak, EASY PREY.

i RECUED A PIT BULL MIX.

Angela Pit bull and pit bull mix is the same thing. GENETICS . In the UK these dogs have been outted since 1991. The law was introduced in response to numerous high profile incidents of serious injury or death resulting from attacks by aggressive and uncontrolled dogs, usually on children. Several breeds in particular were identified by the Act including those dogs identified as Pit Bull Terriers. I have seen a person killed by one of these creatures. It's horrid.

Pit bulls by their very nature were intended to be dangerous, since they were originally bred in England in the 1800’s to fight other dogs in pits, which is how they got their name. http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/9-2-2005-75959.asp

Andy, what planet do you come from? Yours is the most Knee jerk liberal reaction Ive yet heard, and Iveheard some silliness before. Pits "By their nature" they were bred to fight other animals, had amazing courage, hardness, agility, shock proof and bred for endurance and working holds, for hoiurs sometimes.
I differ totally. Ill argue that GSDS & Rotts were Bred to fight men! Fight Drive is encouraged and sought out. 1 of the nicer Pits Ive seen took over 6 months to get him to bite, he is a beast now, but that was his nature, very docile. Lots of strike issues as well, same as Bulldogs in protection.. they arent GSDs.
Stats are misleading & often tell tell the real story. My neighbors poodle has bitten 3 children and snapped at numberous adults. Not a 1 was reported, very frequent episodes like this happen undreported.
You cite 70% of Pit Bull fatalities involving children. What in the Hell does that tell you about the owners, you moron? They are Absent, & allowing their chilren to play unsupervised or allowing their dogs to roam loose. Any GSD or ROtt or other serious working breed could & frequently Does have the same outcome. In some cities, GSDs lead in dog bites & fatalities as well, Ive seen the stats.
This banning stuff is nonsense. Please stop with the hysteria, Chicken little.

Ugly what is liberal about beleiving numbers lol. All I have to say is that the last pitbull killing was a family dog. A family dog means you play with it and it doesnt bite you in the neck. My son runs around plays football in front of all my shepherds and my neighbors ten mutts and nobody worries. That you like the dog is one thing. If the dogs are legal and families purchase them as family pets. Hell they should atleast come with a warning lol. Dont take it personal . Enough about pits, atleast for me. Have a great day.

Andy, no harm intended, sorry, BUT a Pit would not be my 1st choice for a family pet and is not a dog Id recommend FOR a family PET. They are a Fighting dog, a terrier, & catch dog that really needs a job. Labs, Poodles, Collies, GOlden, beagles... all make good pets, when trained correctly.
Nor would I advise a working GSD in a pet home. Its a working dog. But I know many do fine, just as many Pits do fine in these environments. Their popularity has probably surpassed the GSD, is my guess and most fulfill the role of pet. I dont think thats altogether intelligent unless the dog, owner and family members are all trained in dos/donts and proper behavior in raising a dog.
No training is required to own one. You give the dogs way too much credit. And I give humanity little to no credit. God help us all with what is out there.

Pits are listed in the stats as "pit bull types" because there is no such breed recognized by any reputable registry in the US. Please don't bring up UKC which began simply as a vehicle for the founder to register HIS pitbull. There is no standard, and no official recognised bloodlines. In short, they are mutts.

Ugly, as usual, you're full of it! We had a dog fatality here in York Region a few years back. An English mastiff was let off its chain, by its owner, at the request of her daughter. The dog went almost immediately to one of the children that was visiting, and without any provocation, fastened its jaws on the girl's throat.
The dog's owner broke a finger trying to pry the jaws open. She hit the dog with a shovel. By the time the dog finally released the child, it was too late. Courtney Trempe died from a crushed trachea, and a severed carotid artery.
Don't talk to me about 'lack of parental supervision'! It only takes ONE bite, and that can happen in just a few seconds. Even if the parent is present, they may not be able to get the dog under control in time to prevent serious injury or death to the child. Imagine, a large dog picking up a baby...one shake, and the baby's neck is broken.
Also, to dispell the myth that dogs who are aggressive towards other dogs ARE NOT necessarily aggressive towards humans, this dog had attacked several neighbours' dogs, and in the one incident, actually KILLED the dog! Studies have shown that most dogs which have attacked and killed humans have previously shown aggression towards other dogs.
Courtney's mom is totally opposed to BSL, which would not have saved her child anyway, as the dog wasn't a pit bull (now banned in Ontario).
For what it's worth, here is a list of the recommendations made by the jury, after the inquest into Courtney's death:
